Not to be a fanboi but I only recently within the last month found Tipa's blog and I have to say she's now easily my favorite MMO blog.

I agree with what she had to say about STO, i think i would have been sold on teh game when i played the Open Beta if the ideas outlined in that blog post had been implemented. However reading West Karana is making me want to play STO anyway I may cave.

The writing on Tipa's blog is great, but the opinions of anyone who likes STO are highly suspect at best. =)

@enamelizer

STO is head & shoulders above most MMO's in this phase of its life. Has there ever been an MMO which fires on all cylinders this close to its release? -rhetorical-

I can't stand WoW but I'd never say someones opinion is suspect simply by finding enjoyment in the experience. To each his own.

Taste is subjective, but all I can say is this:

I wouldn't take music advice from a Britney Spears fan, and in the same vein, I wouldn't take MMO advice from a WoW player.

And yet if Britney makes a boatload of money, the industry will try to continue that trend with Britney-alikes. The all-mighty dollar will point the way regardless of taste.

STO isn't as bad as some games I've played, and even has some good features. Not enough to recommend it at the moment, but it has potential if it grows up over the next few years. Of course, I'm also starved for a relatively casual space/ground MMO as much as the next guy.

I think the survey is a great idea. It accomplishes its purpose as-is. I hope Cryptic uses it and applies what they find to the game -- even if it means putting it back in beta (pipe dream). Any elaboration in the survey itself may only confuse things. People have been elaborating in the forums since beta. If they want to elaborate on some of their responses, they should feel free to do so in the forums IMO.

I can't play the game as it is now but hope Cryptic (or whoever takes over the IP in 10 years) can make a decent game true to Star Trek.

I have tried to like this game, I really have. It LOOKs like it could be allot of fun, but after my third night of logging in, running around the stupid space station looking for Chekov, and giving up and playing ME2 through again I think I will have to take a pass >

The problem might be that you're looking for Sulu. Try the Admiral's Office turbolift. He's standing across the room from Admiral Quinn.

Thanks for the reminder/update about the survey, Rubi, I was totally behind on my Massively news and didn't even realize they had one!

Chekov is currently in Canada, looking for his kid.

I'm going to go ahead and downstar myself for my bad taste.

So basically, take some stuff from EVE and put it in STO.
Well I guess I agree, it would make STO better.

I really like the idea of Seasons. There are some elements of this game that are a lot of fun like PvP. I would like to see where it is after another 1-2 years of new content. And the thing that shocks me is that this studio has several more projects in the works and STI is not a completed game! Cryptic needs to finish STO and CO first. I really hope they keep listening to the fan base and add great ideas to their own because they are a talented studio.

I think there are elements of Eve that would work in STO but I seriously doubt these designers want to take that route. Then again one of the survey questions did have to do with persistent maps.

So that was a great blog but for me and my house I would never release a game that in not finished or polished. STO has some great potential. It has some DX 11 potential. I will check it out in year MMO time.

Nice to see the little comments and blogs with sugery words and comments that do absolutely nothing to fix or provide punishment to devs that release games like STO and then release ignorant, vanilla surveys like they just did.

As Somebody once said, its dead Jim. Nothing will remove the bad taste of a rushed, unfinished game, pushed out a door for money.

Those that subscibe to "thats the way MMO's are supposed to be released" are mindless sheep.

The first thing a person has to ask themselves, is the reason for the survey, as vanilla as it is, in the first place. The short answer is the screwup devs have to push something out and need to see what would retain the most subscribers. People eat up these surveys thinking they are making a difference, your not.

The big joke that any subscriber is going to change what cryptic did to STO and help improve it is laughable.

Cryptic is on damage control now seeing what changes they can make that are fairly easy to do (the reason for the surveys limited scope) so they can try and stop the bleeding and final collapse of this title. Good luck, i am sure many trekkies will cling to the edge with the last bit of fingernail until that final warpcore breach.
