WOW! 5 different players? That's like half the player base!

Doubt they could answer anymore than that, as I don't think they know how their skill system is supposed to work either!

Nice to know they are working on the skills system, even nicer to know the level cap will go up later this year. Though they seem to have the ranks wrong, Vice Admiral should come before Rear Admiral, or so it is in most navy's.

The servers are running well now, lagg issues seem to be sorted out and no shortage of players. I am enjoying my time in STO very much. Don’t know why people are complaining, it’s been a pretty good launch so far.

I enjoy it too bezza. I've had a few minor instances of rubberbanding i could probably count them all on my fingers. I have yet to come across any game brwaking bugs. And the ones I have come across were minor annoyances at best.

This has to be one of the most botched MMO releases ever.

The game is worse than Earth and Beyond. It feels like you are in a box and can't really go down or up. Can't crash into planets, everything is so controlled and you end up zoning everywhere. For example why do you have to zone into Earth space and then into the station??

The bridge is worthless and the missions are all the same. Go here fight x race 4 times and the 5 times run around a planet.

If you have settings maxed out expect the game to crash.

You are force to group and if 1 person leaves the group then your are forced to redo the whole mission.

You're a liar or you're ignorant.

"If you have settings maxed out expect the game to crash."

Your computer must stink. I've played at max through beta.

Dislike the game if you like. Critique it even. Be critical until blue in the face. But don't be dishonest.

There are some serious bugs with the skills. I put all my points into the "Make This Game Not Suck" skill and nothing happened.

Chris nailed everything.

With every attempt by cryptic to get this game rolling the result will simply be more bad press, like the following.

For a new game, one would think at least something worked, skills being the most important, many, many are broken in either pvp or pve.

Tying skill points with progression was a bad idea from the start, but the devs would not listen, why? becaue it was already implemented the way they wanted and the devs wouldnt change it. One glaring example is the skill tree, not only did the simplest of q/a fail to notice (hundreds of fixit bugs detailing this in early beta were sent in) the captain skills being missaranged, they couldnt tell anyone whether the intended points actually worked for the intended skill. Then the devs capped skills without thought to character or ship progreesion, another can of worms. Sooooo much is wrong and bad about this game, CBS needs to sue cryptic.

skill points spent on a low level skill tree block, say ship level one of whatever class, added nothing to the last ship skill in that ladder, a pure waste of points and a glaring look into why they tied the two together.

They were told repeatadly what needed to be fixed and what priorities they needed to address, cryptic blew everyone off, again, because they already had the plan set and the program made, many small attempts to make fixes due to dev ineptness resulted in many many crashes during launch and headstart, not that there was a headstart.

These problems couple with the preorder item fiascos have left a bad taste in everyone mouth that has played this game. Some may like and support it until they reach RA in a couple weeks, but those few folks have low standards and like myself, many thousands cancelled during the free month before cryptic and digital river could charge our cards for this poorly made game.

@Bezza I think you just had lower expectations than some of the other people going into this game. It sounds like you've mainly played f2p games from your comment on "they're adding all this free content", and I'm a firm believer of any p2p game being of better quality than any f2p game, even if the p2p sucks. That's just an assumption I'm making that you have mainly played f2p, it's probably not true. But yeah, p2p games, patches and everything, I be expecting all that for my monthly sub! Kinda like how CO was thinking of charging for their little patch? Yeah, can't be doing that with p2p's.

I'm glad I can never ride inside my horse lol.

Your post filled with ambitious words has made me willing to try the free trial whenever Cryptic releases it. I agree that most players over blow the launch day/week experiences. I think it's mainly people who realize they've bought something they don't like and now want to yell about it, and this is a great excuse for just that. You basically have a company that's having to guess how many servers they're going to need available and they often undershoot it because they don't expect everyone that logs in during the first week to actually keep logging in.

There is a lot of repetition in MMO's, but I think how it's mixed up is important. The different skills you have available and then finding ways to use them in order to take down different kinds of mobs. STO really does sound like niche game to me though, kind of like EvE Online is, or I guess LotRO, or what WAR turned into since... nobody plays it anymore...

I have no idea why people who clearly have no interest in playing the game in question feel the need to come into stories that are clearly related to said game and mindlessly rattle on about how much they hate this or hate that or how this doesn't work.

What you hope to achieve is beyond me. Half the stuff your saying isn't true from what I've experienced the other half is mostly true in lots of MMO's and i don't see why they get a free ticket.

Crazy..crazy suggestion but how about you don't click topics about games you don't like and just go in those you do like or aren't sure about. Mindlessly rattling on is nothing short of irritating for those of us that actually like the game and want to discuss it properly.

Cheers!

In the same vein...if you don't want to read opinions that do not agree with your own simply don't read a comment or forum section anywhere because discussion and airing one's views is the point of both mediums.

Shock Horror! I enjoy STO. Yes I run it with settings maxed out, I have been doing so since open beta, the game has crashed only twice for me in all that time. Yes when the headstart began I was annoyed at the way Cryptic failed to anticipate player demand and the initial login issues were annoying. Even the screw up by steam that required I re-download the whole client from scratch was a pain in the butt.

Aside from these issues experienced in the first week I feel the launch went well. Account server issued were resolved swiftly as was the c-store issue with claiming special items. I did experience latency issues and rubber banding in high population areas until recently but the promised hardware updates have fixed this. Compared to other launches I consider this fairly smooth. Since launch Cryptic have been stamping out bugs and introducing significant free content. What’s not to like?

There may be some repetition in missions, but only if you choose to do the same type of missions all the time. Scan this, shoot that, liberate this, rescue that, battle those ships, explore that system… how is that different to other MMO’s? Swing an axe or sword at that, shoot a bow, cast a spell, rescue the maiden, liberate the village… how is this any different? Can you customise your Horse in traditional MMO’s? Do you get to ride inside your horse? Take it into orbit, equip your horse with multiple weapons. Do you have NPC officers to train and use in your horse? LOL , No you don’t do you? STO is hardly a run of the mill MMO experience, the game without dispute is enjoying unprecedented popularity, which just shows that there are no shortage of players who are like me enjoying our time in the game.

Go Figure?

I agree with the OP about the wothlessness of people regularly posting bashing the game, but also Abriona is correct in that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

However the issue the fans of the game have is that the same old names (and some new ones) regularly jump any any article related to STO to list all its faults and try to scare off new players, even though they have already stated they have left the game and cancelled.

Ok, you are disappointed and your feeling are hurt that it isnt the game you wanted, but you cancelled so move on and leave it alone...!

No matter what they do to "fix" this game it will still turn out to be dildos. Because Cryptic is Dildos, they pretty much suck and should get out of the business. Said it before and I will say it again, I hope your reading Cryptic, because after purchasing two of your games which are on my personal top five list of the shittiest video games ever, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GAME FROM YOU. Not even if you beat out WOW's current set of record standings.
Cryptic doesn't care about anything but money, and this shows in their games. It doesn't matter how many nice things you do after you get caught ripping off the hand that feeds you, bubs.
