The link pointed to a 404 page with:

"Uh oh. It's buggy."

Those four words had better not be an omen.

Ever looked at all the other stuff Havok sells? We wants the cloth, AI, and destructibles too :P. But the cloth would really change the "game" if LL could pull that in.

I saw some sldev list traffic suggesting the client side scripting would effectively make SL a windows only client. That would be worth further investigation.

I saw that, but I can't think of any particular circumstance where that would actually be true, unless some sort of proprietary compilation engine was jammed in, and that doesn't seem very likely.

If LL does upgrade to Havok 7 (or a later version) I hope it doesn't take 5 years like the last Havok upgrade.

Regarding the language of choice, LSL vs C#, I got quite the opposite feedback from the Lindens office hours. They seem to be holding back on LSL if C# Can do the same thing, with the exception of fixes and adding things that the whole community can use to improve performance/stability (llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast). You need to take a look at Babbage Linden's logs regarding C#.

Feb 10, 2010 Babbage Linden said:
we will be fixing the LSL where it makes sense
but not where it overlaps with C#
which is the best use of our time
for example, efficient scripts is needed by LSL and C#
and llSetLinkedPrimitiveParamsFast is more generally useful than working llSHA1String functinos anyway
so, it's the right call to do llSetLinkedPrimitiveParamsFast then do C#

Sounds like that "investigating" doesn't mean "investigating", doesn't it?

3rd party developers are already working hard in client side scripting. The popular "Restrained Life" (RLV) features - initially developed for the BDSM community - effectively allow to script control certain viewer features and get increasingly used for non-BDSM applications. For example using RLV is right now the ONLY way to make an avatar map-teleport to another destination without having them confirm the teleport on the map window. This gets used in modern implementations of Tardis or Stargate devices, where a teleport consent can be assumed as given.

The Emerald developers have a similar approach with the LSL-to-Client bridge, with the downside of course that - unlike RLV - this only works with Emerald. There is also a LUA interface in Emerald, hinting at furhter development of client-side scripting. The latest Emerald release (1585) is adding some script preprocessing features, allowing so dearly missed things like Include-files. Something the Imprudence team is working on as well.

Why, no. It's perhaps the most successful non-game virtual environment there currently is. It enjoys considerable financial success as well as having been growing nearly continuously for five years.

That's like asking "Isn't Apple dead yet???" :)
