It's the place all capsuleers should visit at least once in their games. It's also one of the hardest places to get to; way too many good locations for gatecamps...

I'm pretty sure I took a trip there when I was playing, it didn't seem too hard to get to.

I guess it must have been updated with the new graphics because the shots I have of my visit look different (made it in a frigate I believe).

The first trip I took out there I found six frozen corpses drifting quietly in the void of the empty system. There was something beautifully macabre about it.

I made it there once in a shuttle as a noob. It's a shame that the EVE screenshot capture function censors out the actual EVE gate for some reason, all you can see is the collapsed wormhole.

Actually, the destination at the other end of the EVE Gate is never specifically referred to except that it was found in some obscure part of the Milky Way. It's not likely it was found in our solar system, because by the seventy-eighth century it is said rather vaguely that our galaxy had been colonized or claimed by mankind to an unknown extent and finally, after turning against each other over scarcity of land, resources, or both, the first naturally occurring wormhole was discovered that led to the EVE system in some unknown star cluster. However, at some point after the eightieth century the gate "collapsed", leaving the EVE cluster cut off from the rest of humankind, and it wouldn't be a stretch to compare the gate to having been the umbilical cord that allowed to growing population in EVE to have access to the infrastructure of the various factions in the Milky Way. Most of the EVE galaxy left in ruins, after thousands of years, four cultures on four different worlds (among others, such as Jove and the Sleepers) finally managed to redo thousands of years of human technological advancement and then we got the Gallente Federation, the Caldari State (formerly part of the Gallente Federation), the Amarr Empire and the Minmatar Republic (formerly part of the Amarr Empire).

It is possible that the gate actually remains open, but intense bursts of energy continue to rhythmically pour out from what can only be assumed is the other side, making it for the majority of the time dangerous to venture near and permanently inaccessible. In the 234th century there was a stellar event visible from every system in the EVE galaxy coming from the galactic north, that was commonly thought of as the light from whatever destroyed the EVE Gate and continues to render the wormhole impassable finally reaching the EVE galaxy, but eventually disappeared, left unexplained.
