Ripper, were you a Dungeon Runners player? I seem to remember your name from those forums. I think it's really cool that Stephen is involved in Portalarium, and honestly it's one of the big reasons I'm interested in what they do!

Yup - played Dungeon Runners from beta to the second it got shut down. Steve's a big reason I'm interested in Portalarium, too.

I would still think it's an interesting article, in general, but I also know there's at least one proof-of-concept with the plug-in tech and it's pretty cool! Can't wait until they do a demo with an actual product.

Why wouldn't he want to work on Facebook?

1. The games on Facebook are garbage and really need some sort of graphical and gameplay revolution.

2. It's a giant cash cow. Farmville makes millions upon millions a MONTH on Facebook.

3. Unlike Nintendo trying to sell hardware by saying that they will get casuals to play video games, Facebook is a MUCHHHHH better platform to do that.

Imagine a Facebook Ultima game. lol Getting you house robbed by your 65 year old Grandma.

It's cool and all that he wants to make deeper and more graphically impressive browser games, but don't they realize all of these moms, grandmas, and really bored, but non-gamer young women and men are only playing because they're ridiculously simple and kill time? (And addictive) If you actually go about adding some gameplay depth to a browser based game, then you won't gain the interest of the majority of people who play those games. Also, the more impressive you make the game look, the more overwhelming it gets for those non-gamer players.

He wants to make an engine that actually works And is able to handle better graphics and deeper mechanics. The current Flash and Javas crash and stutter all the time.. an engine designed for those game would be a great and needed improvement.
