This would be great, good to see Cryptic is somewhat listening to us. Took 40 billion of us but it eventually got heard!

I'm surprised by this news, having never played the game I just figured that interior of the ships would be a major component of the game. I mean, (hyperbole warning) 90% of the shows and most of the movies took place within the confines of the Enterprise.

If you have to explain to people your statement is Hyperbole, it isn't.

This was my huge sticking point and why I decided not to continue playing... They want us to take the same care for this game that we did in the movies/shows, but yet the in-ship immersion is not there.. What made those shows so awesome were the relationships built not only in combat, but also in ten-forward, quarks bar, or what have you.. Having your ship overtaken and crawling through jefferies tubes is what its supposed to all be about.. Space combat is nice, ground away missions with stiff robotic body movements is ok, but no inner ship invasions or personal time and no way I'm aboard.. *Continues to wait and see...

Half the content is pretty much done anyway, you can see from some of the mission you get to do. Its just piecing them together the same way they have done with the bridge...

Doesn't seem likeit would be too hard to figure out. It's just a larger instance than the bridge. We've already seen the interior of a Raptor.

Whats the point of ship interiors?

Unless they start giving missions that never involve your ship doing stuff, engineering, 10 forward, the bridge... is all eye candy. You can't DO anything while you're there.

Now, I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I would love to be sitting in the captain's chair and have my tactical officer report "Romulans decloaking.. they're firing!"

And then have to rush to engineering to eject the (jammed) warp core before the ship is destroyed. And along the way, shooting through Romulan boarders.

I'm not saying that'd be a bad mission - it'd be really cool. But those missions will never happen. Those missions would never happen because they'd trivialize all the EXISTING missions where our ships are god-vessels.

Think of everything we do in that 3rd person flight view. How could that be adapted to accommodate ship interiors? Does anyone want to bother? I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Ship interiors are vital. I wouldn't have even started game design without them, but you are exactly right. I don't want to just have a place to wonder around and even play doll house in. The ship interior should be a common and vital setting for missions to take place. Also you should be able to interact (ie place ship components) from the interior view (I would prefer this to even a more convenient and easier UI option currently in place). I also would like the option to control battle from the captains chair via commands to personnel and the UI. Honestly I am surprised that these were not day one design decisions.

Careful what you ppl ask for. Ship interior missions means more ground combat. I'll pass.

I for one would like to see them get their servers up and running properly without crashing every few hours, before even considering adding additional content, which essentially serves nothing more than, being an "eye candy"-role.

However, if they do add interiors, they should also add several Star Trek-esque type "missions" while your inside your own ship: Create a holonovel, prepare a feast in the mess hall, visit key locations on ship (bridge, engineering, 10 Forward etc).

Ahura: Payed by Cryptic to say these lies? I know for a fact that the servers have been grossly unstable ever since closed beta, and it STILL hasn't been fixed entirely.

Ship interiors? They stumped me with no real sit interaction for the freaking captain's chair. Are you kidding me??? I have to do a crappy emote and line myself up just right? I want to know why the game that has no player housing or the ability to craft furniture is the game with the sit interaction on seats???? Why does WOW have this and not, let's say, EQ2???? I love EQ2 housing and crafting but not having a sit interaction is BS. Not having it for the captain's chair in STO is epic fail.

So they couldn't pull off at launch what a Russian Free-to-Play MMO (Allods) has in beta?

Expansive ships crewed by you and your friends? Sad.

Oddly, they didn't even have the captains office/quarters off the side of the bridge. Which, with that, I would think they could then nickle-and-dime us into letting us decorate it with off Feringi Rugs or artifacts from fallen Klingon Nobel Houses.

. . .

..and they never will.
The ship 'interiors' are simply zone maps in STO, including your own bridge.

Meaning, you'll never be able to pilot/command your ship from it's bridge, as it's a zone unto itself. (As opposed to the 3rd-person ship, which is simply an avatar like your ground combat avatar..)

Whatever bile Zinkievich is spewing is just filler; there's nothing to 'get right'.
All they will deliver are some extra rooms to the current bridge, as there's nothing else they *can* do. There'll be no extra functionality, but they'll mislead everyone into thinking there is, right up to the long & drawn out end where they'll simply publish the added rooms then go silent (as always).

As such, there will be another great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cry out in terror and are suddenly silenced. You will fear something terrible has happened, and you will be right; "That's no moon - it's a CrypticGame!"

I think the millions of voices suddenly crying out in terror is when they discover they have to pay real US dollars for the new rooms, Amana. :)
