I heard if you purchase the new Afterlifetime subscription you get to play as an Undine.

What a ridiculous move to move to calling them Undine. They were much cooler as Species 8472. People would call them 8472 and it would be all cool and mysterious. Seems like Cryptic just wanted it to be easier to write about them

Do Klingon's still watch as a single Undine runs past, despite knowing who they are and what they are trying to do. Then turn to fight you, the lone starfleet captain. (love STO logic)

Wow. That trailer is unbelievable bad. But if people want to play STO, more power to them.

The trailer refers to them as the Unidine.

The first time an Undine dropped its disguise right in front of me back in CB, I almost filled my pants, it was an incredible moment. I love what they're doing with them, and the battle with the Klingons up in space against the Undine battleship was awesome - it showed that Klingons and humans can still get along, and was a nice bit of structural breakdown in the game. Excellent stuff.

By the way, I suppose that if A.C. Crispin or Christie Golden had invented the name 'Undine', you would be fine with it eh? But because Cryptic/Satan Himself coined it, it has to be crap, right? Right? Idioci.

From a lore standpoint, species 8472/the Undine were vastly superior to the Borg until the Voyager crew came up with the nanobot warhead idea; kind of funny you encounter them so early on when they're supposed to be a bigger threat than the Borg..

Oops. Twice.

Anyway, both times it took a fleet to take the thing down, so I guess they retain their epic status.

You run into them again at several points along a story arc that runs at least up into the Commander level missions -- and there's a particularly clever plot point where the Undine take advantage of their shape-shifting to switch sides more than once in an engagement. A neatly done moment.

That, plus the conclusion of the lengthy Klingon-augment arc that has you fighting alongside TOS Enterprise with voice communication from "Commander Spock," is the best bit of plotting I've run into so far.

I have no particular beef with the formal name of Species 8472 being Undine except perhaps that it is a tad unoriginal and has been used quite a lot to describe aqueous species in videogames (Primal for example).

I have to agree with Neurotic however in that the constant flaying of Cryptic/STO is becoming incredibly tiresome. Yes: We know the game is a little underbaked.. Yes: We know that the C-Store/pre-order shinnannigans suck.

I am not an STO/Cryptic fanboy (I loathe CO regardless) but I do wish the constant naysayers would go play WoW :D

ooooh Jebus I'll be flamed for this...

I actually agree with you. Sifting the STO forums for something of worth, that's not somebody complaining and threatening lawsuit, is becoming harder.

I know exactly what you mean. I kinda wish there was a secret troll-free forum for positively-minded individuals who actually constructively criticize the game, rather than the equivalent of hurling monkey-faeces at each other.

I'd be one of the first to express concern with the "Genesis" mission creation system that, more oft than not, destroys my soul but I would also be up there praising some of the Episode missions which really shine... With a positive community (both inside the game and out) I believe STO could really be a great title.

Just my two gloosy pennies worth...

I agree. The naysayers who seem to have nothing better to do than repeatedly badmouth STO and Cryptic is getting annoying.

OK, you played it, you don't like it, we get it! Now go back to playing whatever MMO it is you hold in such high regard.

Yes STO still has problems, find me an MMO that didn't in its' first month(s) of release! Even longstanding MMOs have issues or break something with a new patch.

Personally I'm enjoying STO. The episodes are great, the mix of ground and space missions are refreshing, and I'm optimistic that whatever issues or omissions it does have will be resolved as it progreses.
