Whereas I applaud CCP for their ambition and creative vision, the proposed targets for realism and atmosphere seem completely out of proportion with the gameplay expectations. Surely it would have been better for the game to start with more modest goals.

For future MMOs that may license CCP's technology (or steal their ideas), this project may prove to be a great boon. But for EVE itself, this could well be one staggeringly expensive mistake.

Why? Incarna was the basis for Dust514, its the same engine, so technically even if Incarna is only use for RP and for the N00bs just joining eve, the tech development was still worthwhile because it resulted in dust514.

Have you seen the gameplay videos? The atmosphere and realism are dead on for the feeling of eve, realistic looking characters/clothes/environments... and still dark and nefarious.

After this rolls around, I have a feeling the Jita station will be a hellhole of lags, crashes, and characters fusing into one multi-headed mass of flesh and clothing... a constants scream on it's lips.

You know... the usual.

actually think of that for a second, that would be the save of Jita, sure the station will lag as hell, the space will be much much better.

'Could you imagine killin an enemy alliance leader and getting shot in the head by a CONCORD patrolman walking the halls.'

Yes I can... It's not that hard.
Just look at the STO crappy ground combat, it will be the same.

Incarna will change nothing about the core gameplay itself. EVE will still be all about spaceship pew pew, and losing millions of ISK in a few seconds. But Incarna will add a whole new layer of interaction to EVE. Something to do while sitting out a wardec. Walking in Stations will probably replace Spinning in Ships. And what better way to taunt your wardec'cing corporation in local than while attaching another strip of duct tape to your table and drinking a glass of Minmatar... Whatever they drink (that radioactive stuff that sometimes spills from nuclear ammo if you leave it loaded in your railguns for too long?)

CCP does need to make Incarna an actually interesting and long term playable part of Eve - instead of just a cosmetic appendage.

Some people should read the chronicles and have some idea about what they're discussing before spouting their mouths about the cloning bit. Referencing the tech article from the eve website:

http://www.eveonline.com/background/eggers/egg_02.asp

tldr; according to Eve fiction, although it IS possible to clone outside the pod, due to the "limitless potentiality of planet-bound environments" this has proven unsafe and therefore rarely practiced. A pod pilot can leave his/her pod, but they would be exposing themselves to, as mentioned, perma-death. Other chronicles also reveal that pod pilots are treated to their own areas when out of their pods in stations, rarely having to interact with the rest of society.

Likely, when they release Dust514, they'll make some claim that the cloning process has evolved with new technological breakthroughs....or something of that sort.

Brendan,

Any comment or new word on Incarna being a testing ground for the WoD MMO that CCP have in development using White Wolf Studios?

Not that I've heard. They're likely to use parts of the engine for WoD though since they're also using parts of it for DUST514, their upcoming FPS game. Still, WoD is very likely a long way off yet, I wouldn't get excited over it until we hear something new about it.
