There was actually a thread on 4chan's /v/ board once about a One Piece MMO. All the ideas tossed around sounded like it would make a completely amazing game, and I would absolutely play it.

There are a few I'd love to see but I also wince when I think what would happen if they screwed it up. A good adaption of an IP I already like is really cool. A bad adaption of an IP I already like is much more disappointing than a bad original IP.

Babylon 5 ... definatly would be my dream mmo ... though I doubt it would happen. I would love to be Centaruri or Narn .. and have a big overarching storyline. To have the Psi Corps meddling things up. It would be a blast for me.

Firefly, more than anything. Preferably in an MMO made by Bioware that allowed you to have not 1 (as in GW2 and SWTOR) but 2 or 3 companion NPCs along with you.

Firefly had so much potential, so much room to grow with the storyline before it was cancelled. Other IPs mentioned here, such as Dune and WoT, actually have too much lore and information out there -- making MMO design very hemmed in and restrictive.

A Mass Effect MMO would be great, but it would only work if it offered players the OPTION to group with other players OR with companion NPCs such as Miranda, Garrus, Jacob, etc. Those of us who love STORY appreciate the option of playing with NPCs, since they never break immersion with 10-year-old "Chuck Norris" chatter, they never ragequit, and they are ready to "party" when you are.. : /

Guild Wars managed to offer this kind of option for story-loving players; surely some other MMO developer could do the same. Here's hoping, anyway...

BattleTech and Gundam (UC, CE or AW) would be great candidates for a mech-oriented sci-fi MMO. That's something I'd definitely play, provided it's better handled (and more internationally available) than UniversalCentury.net was. Macross could also be very good, but would be a lot more difficult to pull off successfully and very difficult to market outside of Japan.

I'd mention Omikron/Blade Runner, but there already is a decent cyberpunk MMO (Neocron). Still, it wouldn't hurt to see a better game built on one of those universes. Otherwise Mass Effect and Iain M. Bank's Culture universe seem like great candidates. A society where people can change their looks and gender at a whim? Sounds like a MMO to me!

Or a spacefaring MMO in the Babylon 5 or FreeSpace universe: sweet!

I would love to see the old pen & paper rpgame Space: 1889 as a MMO.
Imagine a world set in a victorian empire that reaches even out into space (or as seen in the game; the ether).
The mysteries of the pyramids connected to the canals of Mars, hidden Moonmen, djungels of Venus and ships made of liftwood that can fly.

I would play this.

While not a mass market genre I believe there are enough people interested in "Steampunk" to make this succeed as a niche title. It would have to include ship combat (similar to PotBS), swords and guns (personal combat), inventions (crafting) and exploring plus extravagant costumes (for role-playing) so it could be a well-rounded game appealing to many types of gamers.

TRON is a natural for a MMOG.

What other genre (except, maybe, Cyberpunk) could have players believe that lag, disconnects and bugs were valid tactics for the MCP (AI) to use against them? ;-)

But, seriously, TRON could be very cool.

Shadowrun(Pen and Paper RPG, some console games, a crappy shooter)
Decking and Rigging would be a bit difficult to implement, but i would really like to play it.

Battletech(Tabletop, several computer games)
Some might remember Multiplayerbattletech:3025 from EA. Sadly it got never released. With todays tech you could have massive Mech battles with Battalion or even Regimental size Units. Planetary production, supply lines. Lots of stuff to make this a nice MMO.

The Dark Eye/Das Schwarze Auge(Pen and Paper RPG, several computer games)
Its in Germany as popular as D&D in other countrys.

Fantasy: Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin- My favorite books and not just good fantasy, but truly unique, one-of-a-kind, real, and new mythology she developed(yes from existing sources- for all you purists out there :) )
Sci-fi: the Honorverse by David Webber. Perfect reskin for EVE. Take EVE, slap a new face on it, tweak some systems, and BAM! (Hey, I am all for "innovation" but let's not forget that while innovation is fun, fun doesn't need innovation).

rather than a specific IP, I'd like to see a basic modern horror / fantasy MMO. With Vampire, Werewolf and ghost as player races / classes. Set it all in one big, well mapoped out city where it is always night and really ramp up the themes and moods. Mix in the best bits of Buffy and the white wolf games with the awful but popular twilight and true blood concepts and you could have a great MMO.

Your story begins as a paled and half crazed doctor finishes stitching you together and reaches for the lightning conductor ...

I'm sick of people calling for an MMO of IP X just because they like said IP. Mass Effect MMO?! Ugh, no way would that be fun. Mass Effect's appeal, to me anyway, is that it is like an interactive movie/story. That just wouldn't work with thousands of other people running around all alledgedly being main charaters in some story. They'd have to change so many things about what makes Mass Effect the awesome game that it is. Plus, with established IP's being converted to MMO, you get all kinds of turmoil with people all having different opinions of how IP X should be conveyed as an MMO.

Just because it's a good game or a good movie or a good book etc ... doesn't mean it would make a good MMO. Of course this has just been my opinion. What do I want? I want a developer to give me a world, characters, and probably a story that is totally new and designed from the ground up to be used for an MMO. I know it would be more work than awkwardly retrofitting an existing IP, but it would have so much more potential.

I'm aware that many MMO's have been made free from the bondage of an existing IP, but all that are noteworthy only seem noteworthy to me due to gameplay. I'm not saying that's bad because it's not; gameplay is extremely important, but I'm waiting for a unique IP that has such a well constructed world/lore (whatever you'd want to call it; I think you get what I mean) that people fall in love with it for more than just its, hopefully, great gameplay.
