Fortunately I didn't make any mistakes because I read up on the game, followed the tutorials with a close eye and monitored the Help channel for useful points. Thanks to all that I'm able to pass on a lot of what I've learned to the Help channel, and these are all things I've touched on multiple times. :) Especially the AP spending.

Any of these mistakes or any other major ones, I should say. >_> Little mistakes, sure. *cough*

My biggest mistake was using a name I cared about on my first character. Now that he's broken with misspent APs, I have no desire to log in and have cancelled my account. A shame, because I really want to play...

Except for the whole starting over part. I don't want to start over and have to replay all the game I've already played.

Delete and start over is the single most ignorant answer to a problem in an MMO.

Each sector has a lot of quests that provide bonus APs. Finding a good guide to those can add 200 APs to your pool through the course of the game with relatively light effort, more if you are determined and don't mind a deep time investment.

Here is a couple more:

Only going to one starter town.

Starter towns have lots of free books, sometimes even second tier books. It is a good idea to go to several starter towns, especially if you plan on doing some crafting. The exp will also help make the later towns easier as well as you will be a bit higher level.

Buying pen and paper to make cheap tier 2 books.

Many of the tier 2 books are cheaper to buy than to make with pen and paper. Make sure you check the price of the book and compare it to the cost of the pen and paper it takes to make it.

Buying tradeskill items off the AH.
Much of the tradeskill items on the auction house have prices above what normal vendors sell them for. This is because of two reasons: many players think items are rarer than they really are, and the AH is very convenient compared to running around looking for the correct merchants. Make sure to research prices, and buyer beware!

My biggest first mistake was I didn't roll a melee character. Currently, Melee is FE on easy-mode: you don't have to manage ammunition, you'll be able to chew through the PvE content with ease, and ironically, melee suffers no disadvantages in PvP (results vary on build). A ranged build would have been a refreshing alt, supported by an established (and low maintenance) level 45 melee character, but not as a main.

The second mistake I made with my first character is I didn't roll an Intelligence based crafter build. So much of the content of FE is its crafting system, and if you're not Intelligence based then you'll run into a wall with your crafting skill, unable to craft end-game gear. You won't realize there's a ceiling until Sector 3, but by then . . .

Summary: I highly recommend your first character being a melee/crafter build.

Still love the game, just "would-a, could-a, should-a".

numbers 4,3,2 and 1. Especially the last one made me reroll a character. The second time around I chose the "wrong" starting area (Terance) which turned out too hard for a noob like me.

My first toon is a rifleman and basic crafter. aka i craft what im able to with the percption i have for the rifle.

only thing you can do is mess up your AP points. wasting it in things you dont need or later might not use. my big recommedation is just use AP points into the basic skills you need for your toon in order to fight. Then you'll have tons of saved AP after that to figure out while you play the game and learn more. im lv 39 with 952 total AP, i have 161 unspent. not sure which mutants i wanna put em in yet :) im waiting to see how high my basic skills get when im 45 to see how many points i really need at max level.

defantly play what you wanna do. dont listen to ppl who say "make a melee/crafter toon for your first" pft if your not gonna have fun playing it, screw that. do whats fun to you! its your money!

AP is advancement points not action points.
