Shame I never got past 30 with my toon because the game sucked the life from out of me.
Cryptic have left stuff like this too late, NONE of my friends list even play anymore, and Cryptics reputation is down in the gutter.

I swear, either Cryptic's PR team is working overtime or they are shelling out some big bucks to Massively. It feels like every other article on here for the last few weeks has been about Champions or STO. Pretty odd, considering how lackluster both games are.

1. Star Trek Online launched yesterday. Hence the news.
2. Champions Online is embroiled in controversy thanks to their latest patch. Hence the news.

So... kinda the PR team? But not really?

Sera, I want to know your thoughts on Star Trek Online, so I compiled a nice little questionnaire for you. Please mark [x] in one box below!

Star Trek Online is..... :

On the whole a good game [ ]
On whole a bad game [ ]

@Mr. Angry

Er... um... it's not that simple?

On the whole, I'm not that impressed. But I like the ship combat. But that's because I liked Pirates of the Burning Sea's ship combat.... and this is the same thing.

Also, I'm not a Star Trek fan, so I'm a bad person to ask that of.

Sera i find that a joke. For over a month Massively has been spewing stuff about STO every chance they could. Opinion columns, screenshots, guides to everything. At the same time Global Agenda gets mentioned only now and then. There were days when there was up to 6 articles dedicated to STO.

Even today there are at least 3 articels that have to do with Cryptic. So don't tell us you aren't getting something back form this. And that all of Massively just enjoys Cryptic games this much that they can't stop talking about them.

The same thing happened with Champion Online.

@ Seraphina Brennan:

1. Global Agenda also just came out. Where's the mention of that?
2. Sakura Park.

You folks have made my point very well. I certainly understand that STO is a new game. I understand that there's controversy going on with CO. But I also look back on previous new games or controversial situations and the amount of coverage hasn't come even close to this. Good grief, even Wrath of the Lich King didn't see such a blizzard of articles (pardon the pun) and that was only the biggest number of potential interested readers on the planet.

Unboxing the STO collector's edition? (http://www.massively.com/photos/star-trek-online-collectors-edition-unboxing/) Are you serious?

You mean, I get to kill Cryptic devs? Sweet.

Seriously, though, I don't advocate killing IRL.

I played for a while, got my main up to 33, and then my soul was also sucked dry. There was just no "there" there. I really really really wanted to love this game, but my love was unrequited.

That's awesome! Cryptic is going to marhc out some of their team for a PvP event!?!

I wonder how many Cryptic points will it cost us to participate?

Massively loves Cryptic. But this is one of Cryptic's solution to better communications. They have been saying that forever. This is pure marketing by them, but a significant part of the playerbase will not stay this time if they do not follow up with actions. I wish to the gods in all of heaven if I could get my LT sub back. The forums provide much better entertainment than the game, and that my friend is just sad.

That dev team should get back to work and crank out some actual content.

Before the news makes Massively's front page, it looks like Daeke, CO's Communty Rep, was fired or quit and has been replaced today. Daeke was the guy who dropped the bomb last week that Vibora Bay would be paid content.

Something tells me that and his departure are not coincidence.

That's unfortunate what happened to Daeke. Reminds me of when Tiggs was fired from SWG because she went and did the unthinkable by telling the community the truth about SWG's coming NGE changes at the time.

Now it happens to Daeke, he goes and answers a question someone asked with the truthful answer that the new zone was going to be something you had to purchase and they let him go for not following the Cryptic playbook of lies.

I hear to be able to kill one of the Dev's in PvP, you have to pay 500 Cryptic Points to land the death blow.

From the outside, it seems Cryptic cares only about getting a dollar - not about creating a fun gaming experience. Well, I don't think of that of everyone there - but the management does.

I get wanting to make money. So hey - Cryptic.... if you make a good game people will buy it. They will even spend crappy amounts of money on lame C-Store purchases - IF the game is fun.

Nah, not really. If a game charges a subscription, I expect to have access to ALL of it's features. In fact, the only things I would ever pay extra for are "OOG" services or products, like character transfers, guides, merchandise, etc.

It's kinda like magazines, I suppose. I pay a subscription fee for those too, they get delivered to my door, then I get to read them... from the first page to the last.
I don't pay a mandatory fee PLUS a micropayment for each page with an interesting article on it. That would be silly.

Now, I understand these games are persistant, so they need to have dedicated servers, not to mention the staff to maintain them. That's fine.
That's exactly why I accept to pay 15€ per month, instead of 2 or 3€. Also, I believe that price is fair for the amount of entertainment I get every month.

What I fail to see is the FAIRNESS in having to pay 60€ for the game, 30/40€ for each major content expansion, a mandatory 15€ monthly fee PLUS 2-10€ microtransactions for in-game and in-character stuff like: traits, skills, races, zones, dungeons, cosmetic items, etc.

I'm sorry, but I would rather give up gaming altogether and turn my attention to other forms of entertainment, than support a business model like that. But I can only speak for myself, of course. I'm sure others would disagree.

I wish I still had access to CO or STO. There is so much fun to have in the trade channel, crap items and cryptic points.
