Mortal Online's open beta began yesterday, but closed beta players have been enjoying the game for a while now, right along with the development team.
The Mortal Online team has been collecting game footage from closed beta and working on a game trailer for the past few weeks. They're drawing the suspense out by showing it to fans in parts, and part one was released today. They do warn us that it's not super polished, as it was created using the then-current build of the game, but it's still a great look at the world of Nave.
You'll see a fair amount of players, as the video is composed entirely of in-game footage from beta, and Mortal Online sent out a big thank you to all the players who participated in the production. Take a look at part one of the trailer after the jump, and we'll keep an eye out for the next two parts!

So Beta testers.. What do you think? It looks nice from the trailer.. do we have an indie hit?

That video looked great. And then they showed characters.
The animations in that game are abysmal, they make the game look like something from the late 90s. The environments look amazing, though.

Hopefully they will patch up the animations as the game progresses, beyond release.

This is exactly the type of game I was looking for when I first started exploring MMOs. So needless to say, I am excited about this one. I have the beta, and I will be trying it out today.

Yeah, Im with Mike. Video looks great, up until the character models. Those are HORRIBLE!
Slowly downloaded the 3gb beta client, and it was corrupted. Hesitant to re-download it.

I'm trying to try the Open Beta, but there is just so much lag that I can't even play the game! I can't get anything done, yet I see tons of people still playing and I can't understand how they can play through all that lag. Everything is like one minute behind!

Darkfall is already out and is the mmorpg ive been looking for since i left swg the day nge went live. It isnt the wow or aion type of mmorpg. If your looking to play the game for gear everyday and just stand around playing barbie dolls with your characters it may not be for you. It seems to lean more towards pvp and exploration.

No I think he posted exactly what he meant inside this article. Darkfall and Mortal have something of a rivalry going on from what it seems. Darkfall being the older, already released sandbox/fantasy game, and mortal online being the newer soon to be released version of the same idea.

Great trailer. However, I kept thinking I was going to hear Quinto start talking about a distress call.

Tried the open beta, let's just say that this is not a game I'm going to be playing unless I spend more money than I have spare upgrading my PC. I was getting, literally, about one frame per second.. on the login and character creation screen! It's a little hard to create a character when your mouse pointer position is only updating at 1 fps!
And my machine isn't that horrible.. couple of years old, runs every other MMO I've tried acceptably. Some chug a bit (like Fallen Earth) but all playable. Mortal Online, absolutely not.

Can't really see how a server side problem could make it chug to the point where I'm getting 1 dps on mouse cursor, even before I have entered my username and password to log in.

Well I'm in, here are some tips.
Tab to target whatever/whoever is infront of you, then press R to interact.
Press "i" for the the inventory, then "p" for the character sheet, drag and drop your axe to equip it.
X to pull out your weapon. X again to sheathe it.
Numlock does work for autorun (yay).
You do start out with spells, however you need components to use the spells. You start out with no money so you can't buy the components, so you can't use the spells.
SLI seems to be bad. Using AFR1 seems to actually bring down my framerate. If you try out SLI and find a good setting, let me know.

Very nice environments, but yes as noted by others the characters..... wow those graphics do look a bit, "dated". The general consensus seems to be it's definitely not ready yet, be interesting to see how fast they push it out the door. I love sandbox games, and am 100% behind skill-based games, hope it works out.
