Hellgate: London is one of those games that has really divided opinion from our readers. Some brand it as a deeply-flawed game, or were burned by that costly Founder's lifetime subscription when the game shut down after a rather short life. Others -- like some of us on the Massively staff -- truly miss the game's blend of horror and sci-fi elements and have been hoping that Hellgate: London would one day return in some form or another.
Although the future of the game has been murky, the most recent (and most straightforward) announcement is that Hellgate: London is slated to return to Western shores. HanbitSoft has secured the worldwide publishing rights to the game from Namco-Bandai, so now it's just a matter of time before it returns. We're interested to hear what you think about this. Would you welcome the return of Hellgate: London? For that matter, how would you feel about playing the game in its current free-to-play incarnation, Hellgate: Resurrection?

I have never liked the idea of an optional pay to play model. They are never worth the subscription fee but you still feel left out when you don't pay. Hellgate would have been better with no subscription and then selling DLC. For this reason I won't spend $50 on a game like Global Agenda because I don't like feeling either "cheated" or "alienated" depending on if I pay or not.

That would have been an excelent idea for them, use the model DDO have gone for and released a lot more "adventure packs" and I think it would have worked better for them than what they did. They could have still had the sub, like VIP in DDO, which gives all content + other bonuses.
Anyway I'll definately play the new HG when it does come out... although I'm also keeping an eye on http://www.hellgateaus.net/ where they seem to be trying to patch up the original SP AND make a version with LAN play and many other improvements.

I would love it if Hellgate came back. I had a lot of fun playing it, and met a lot of cool people too. Though if Hellgate: London doesn't return, I would be content with playing Hellgate: Resurrection, maybe with benefits for thos who bought the game? :D

I was in the beta, and still bought that twisted ball of programming wreckage anyway because it was still a blast. Even with upgrades that actually downgraded your items, even with the horribly bugged Blademaster class (got to L36 in multiplayer before the game went down), even with my twin swords that simply vanished one day, never to be seen again....even with the tons of memory leaks and crashes where you'd have to start all over and clear out three zones of mobs yet again just to get to the new zone you wanted to hit...I still cried when Hellgate went down.
Luckily, I never bought into the "pay to play what is essentially an instanced single player game on a LAN" so I didn't buy the "lifetime sub."
I will definitely buy the game again and be back online with the free to play model. Hellgate: Resurrection, lol. At least these new devs have a sense of humor. ;)

I loved this game, at least what I GOT to play. Guy at gamestop told me about it, this guy and I were going to play together (that never happened) but a month or two later, it shut down. I was pissed. There is still SP, but thats no where near as fun. Hellgate is a great game.

I loved the game and still play SP now and then.
Big Q is whether I will have to buy the game again...
