"Both gamers are overseen by the same people, Roper & Emmett so don't get your hopes up that they won't do to ST:O what they did to CO."

Does that mean that Bill Gates takes sole responsibility for Windows Vista failure but not the XBox 360's success, just because Microsoft developed them both? Your naivety astounds me...!

Funny how people are not allowed to judge STO because of CO but people bash SOE games all the time because it is SOE. Some people are already raging fanbois about the new bliz MMO when no one knows a thing about it.

From what I have played in STO and CO i think the Star Trek IP deserved better than this.

It reminds me when you are excited because your favourite book is being made into a movie and rather than bringing the words to life you get Queen of the Dammed with some dead singer in it.

The dev teams may not be identical, but the people making the decisions about the direction of the games sure are. To put vinemt's poor analogy into perspective, the cars might be designed by two different teams, but their bosses decide how much you shell out for options.

If CO's method of content delivery makes them enough money, then you would be incredibly stupid to think that STO would be completely unaffected. However I don't believe that it will get them more money. Quite the opposite. So hopefully they learn their lesson and leave STO unmolested in that regard.

If people buy the CO 'expansion' then you can bet that Cryptic will pull the same kind of stunts with STO. The more popular STO is, the higher the chance of the players getting milked for all sorts...Its good business sense to make as much money as you can of course, but Cryptic and Atari are utterly shameless with it.

They already charged $80 more for STO lifetimes than CO, which proves that the CO lifetime package was popular enough for Cryptari to push the prices up and make some extra $$$ this time around. The same will happen with stuff like respecs. If enough people bought the CO respecs from the store, then its entirely possible that STO will be getting store bought respecs too. Why wouldnt they do it? They already know at least some of the playerbase is happy to shell out for stuff they should be getting for free, so why not push it all over again?

Instead of being lazy and making yourself look foolish here, take your epic Crusade of Hate towards these people and the company TO them. Posting here over and over about how much you are a genius because you saw it coming or have been burned by them due to a loss of a few hundred bucks will not do anything aside from making you feel better because you are jumping on the bandwagon with everyone else that hates them. These MMO's, even WoW are so small in comparison to other things people should be this passionate about in the rest of the living and breathing world. I know this is obvious, but it would be nice to see discussions about the relevant article instead of whining about the same thing.

So go find that article. But don't pretend to have the power to make others quiet their complaints. For all you know, they are on those other boards complaining.

Seriously, I don't understand why you all haven't figured it out by now. MMO's are not life long commitments. They're not your friend. They will not pay your electric bill when you're low on cash. They are here to take your money and stop fooling yourselves to think otherwise.

Point here is simple, play the game if you want, but don't let her make you believe that she's there for you... believe me, she's not.

Instead, focus on using her for the 15 dollar a month whore she is. Take advantage of her, slap her when she doesn't listen. When she gets that 'old feeling' put'er to the curb and go find one with bigger Andorian bloobies..

This future STO sounds like a fun game. Maybe in 6 months it'll be worth another look.

"you people" I apologize up front, first not all fall into this catagory, but most do. Until you people refuse to give developers cash they (developers) will continue to do this kind of garbage to make a quick buck.

Distributors and developers also need ISO guidelines mandated for them for these unfinished (**beats back the rabble that says all mmo's are unfinished with a dull club**) games and they need to be enforced. Having instances like D2D stating there is no refund once you buy a preorder (a true example) and find out the game is in a sorry state isnt good for business, but they practice this way.

You hold onto your cash, they change the way they do business. Its a tough concept i know.

Do some research fella, lifetime subs will be available post launch, albiet at a slightly higher cost. But if you don't like it then get off the wagon and don't play it. We've heard it all before, some of us dont mind the cryptic store and so far all new content is free.

It is up to them what subscription and micro transaction models they use, it's their game they are allowed to turn a profit.

I am not ruling the possibility out, but till it happens I will reserve judgment.

Seeing less commenters raging over Cryptic "taking their money" and more talking sense about STO and Cryptic is very pleasing to the eye.
