With things like this, it is absolutely no surprise that STO will flounder as Cryptic passes on it's exact same business practices from CO to that game.
First it's the character slots issue, then the Retcon (respecs), and now the first major bit of "content edition" that they're going to add to the game is going to cost full box price?! Holy hell are they bad at understanding how to keep a paying MMO customer base.
I give a big fat */middle-finger* to Cryptic for their idiotic moves and hope that they go bankrupt before the end of 2010.

What pisses me off most is that I have lost a great deal of excitement for STO I'll still buy it, but wit hthis in mind (why the Hell can't I type "with this" properly), I'm in no rush.

By tell of what the game's users have said, this area is a large gap of missing content within the game that needed filled anyways.
Age of Conan, by Funcom, filled it's content gaps with a whole new zone (Ymir's Pass) for FREE. Around the same time they added in another raiding zone for the higher leveled content players for free as well.
World of Warcraft, well it added some 5-10 dungeons and raids before it's first expansion, not to mention the armor sets, world events, items galore, PvP content, and so much more all for FREE. Their new expansion, TBC, brought not one new zone, but 7 new zones (8 if you count Caverns of Time) and they added in Zul'Aman and Sunwell prior to WotLK.
Warhammer Online added in their Land of the Dead zone for free roughly 6 months after the game's release.
Don't even get me started on how much stuff has been added to EVE Online for free.
My point? It doesn't matter whatever price they're charging, if it's above "$0.00" then it's too much and too excessive for a monthly fee game.

And all that time, players have needed to make no other payments than the initial game and a monthly subscription after that.
And now this... Jeez, even Blizzard has more dignity than Cryptic (though I consider 30 bucks just to be able to grind 10 levels further pretty outrageous too).
