So today's the morning of the 25th, dear Massively readers, and that means tonight is the midnight release of MAG! The PS3 is going to get a little more MMO this evening as thousands of players log in for intense "I don't know where I got shot from" action with 256 players.
So, we'll make this short and sweet for you guys. Are you visiting the midnight release tonight to pick up your copy? If so, how early are you going to be there to take part in the "late night festivities?" Are you going to camp out at 10 PM or are you just going to show up 5 minutes before midnight? Bonus question: If you're getting MAG tonight, are you going to go home and spam it, or are you saving it for Tuesday?
Take your opinion, load it in your keyboard, and then fire it directly into the comment box below. We're waiting, maggots!

As long as it isn't just running around with dual shotguns.

From what i read this game is more on the lines of Global Agenda than Planetside. With all the players separated into smaller maps. I'm not sure if Seraphina is getting paid to advertise for this crappy game or she was in beta or what, but this Ra-Ra buy this game because it's shiny and new is getting old. People want innovative and fresh idea's not scams like 256 players one map when it's really only 16.
This game blogging site is starting to disappoint me.

It does have 256 player battles, not every missions is 256 players however. The two other game types have 16v16 and 64v64. The largest game type is one large map but the different squads don't spawn on top of each other. However the player can walk anywhere on the map they want. It's that way to encourage sticking together, team work and what not.
Should it be marked as an MMO? Not the way we all think about them. Maybe that means we need to start thinking of MMOs in different terms?

Ok I love my ps3 also .. and would gladly choose it over a 360 but your fanboism (don't think that's even a word) is clearly showing. Honestly I have not tried the MAG beta but from what I saw I wasn't to impressed. It seems mediocre as a FPS but would be nice if it played on a grand scale like PlanetSide.
Meh, I prefer PC games so Ill just wait till I see the reviews before deciding to pick it up.

We did grow up. That's why we can spell.
I'm fortunate enough to have a PS3, a 360 and a pc and each has their own niche they're great at. However, I do agree with the people that don't believe this game should be newsworthy. It may be "massive" for the system that it's on but other than that, pass.

Tards? I'm getting a headache just trying to understand your gibberish piled together disguised as sentences.
Slow down, put some thought into what you're typing, and as mentioned above, TRY AGAIN.

Thought middle school started at 7:30 Trent, guess your skipping, hence why your grammar and spelling are fantastic. You know browsers have spell check right? It also helps to capitalize the first letter of a word in a sentence, just saying.
As for you very prominent (I doubt you even know what that means, go use your PS3 to Google it) fanboy you do lack the basic skills of understanding the other side and arguing those points respectively.
See Massively? See what your site has come to when people like Trent start posting?

Good idea, VERY bad execution (and frame rate). It's a no go for me.

Pretty much my thoughts. The concept was great but it had its own set of issues:
1. Ended up turning off my headset due to all the garbage yapping going on
2. Very few people actually follow any kind of concept of team play. Most seem to run around to do their own thing negating the use, again, for communication
3. Squad play suffered from points 1 and 2. You're better off just having team one and team two of 256 players face off and let the squads form as the playing progressed.
4. This game really doesn't stand alone from other FPS games already released. It seems to be a rehash of everything we have seen before, except its on PS3. SSDD.
Honestly, its like modern day footsoldier Planetside....minus the subscription.

^ you have obviously never played the game before. Rarely framerate problems, executive very well, and is very well polished. Graphics are surprisingly good for such a large scale fps, and the different game modes are 16v16, 32v32, 64v64, and 128v128. Also, in the 128v128 games, when pushed back to your main base if you are defending, everyone does spawn on the same point so watching 50-100 players spawning and charging to the objectives at once while airstrikes are raining down on you and you are dodging sniper fire is very epic and immersive. After playing 2 betas and the IGN tournament, I give the game 7.5/10, with the actual release it might be as high as 9/10...

I'll say this: I played in the beta and tourney after and I'll be picking up MAG on Tuesday (not going at midnight tonight.) I thought it was pretty well done, graphics arn't GREAT but it ran well, and the 256 matches wern't an exclusion. That being said... the 256 number is a pretty big gimmick. The maps are big enough and spread out enough that you'll probably not see more than half your team and theirs at any given time. Still, fun game.
Now, as to it's status as an MMO, I can't see how you would classify it as such. 256 is by no means massive when we are talking on the scale of any real MMO, servers generally try to hit thousands, let a lone a lot of the instancing/sharding that goes on behind the scenes now for games like WoW and Eve, where you technically have tens of thousands of people that can meet up in game somehow (cross server dungeons, etc).
MAG also lacks any real kind of persistence. Sure, there is something called the Shadow War, but really, it's just a big score board, nothing else. So you have stats and levels, but that doesn't make an MMO. Really it's just an FPS with a lot of people and a level system....
... fun game though.

That's probably because a lot of Best Buy stores look identical.
