It's great to see that NCsoft took the time to communicate everything in such detail. Some of the article jumped out at me...

"Make no mistake—it is a war. One that you, our players, see the effects of whenever you play our games or visit forums related to our games. Many of you have noticed the decrease in bots, farmers, and gold spammers as a result of our efforts.

In the game industry, we have also seen an increase in attacks by third parties in an attempt to steal your account information by any means necessary, including phishing, obtaining passwords from third party sites/systems, and using account information provided by those engaged in power-leveling services and other prohibited activities. Recently, the number of these attacks has risen dramatically."

I'm going to change my LotRO password when I get home...

My WoW account was just accessed by a third party recently, and I haven't even played the game in around six months. Someone activated and then deactivated my account, and I got an email when the latter happened. Changed my password ASAP, redownloaded the game, and oddly enough nothing's missing (that I can tell anyway). So basically I have a free month of WoW that I have no intention of using. >.>

Still kinda scary though. Changed all of my passwords elsewhere too, just to be safe.

in my experience 90% of the time people who get their account did something stupid such as giving out a password to a friend, using your game account details of really dodgy 'tips and cheats' sites.

I think as long as you have good security habits and do not tell ANYONE your password, EVER you should be fine. although occasionally of course people DO get hacked for no good reason.
