This can't end well, hell, it can't begin well either. Cryptic has become the new "Flagship Studios", they even have their own version of Bill Roper spewing bile all over their games now.

It's bad, open beta or not. I don't think Q could fix the problems with this game.

My partner and I have been playing Open Beta and we love this game! Sure it still has some issues but the game it self is a winner. Traditionally I am not a massive Star Trek fan, but STO really has that Star Trek feel to it.

There are some balance issues I have encountered, a few minor bugs, but seriously Cryptic have done a great job. Of course the open beta is currently limited to a limited area of space and low level. Anyone making broad sweeping statements about the game haven’t even seen the whole game. Such swift judgments in my opinion are perhaps a little bias and should be taken with a grain of salt. The huge number of people playing the open beta and "still playing" the open beta speaks for itself. Nothing so popular can be all that bad and it is after all a BETA.

I enjoy ground combat, it is paced enough to keep you on your toes but not so hard core that you feel your playing a FPS shooter. Reminds me allot of ground combat in Tabula Rasa which i also enjoyed. Space combat likewise is challenging enough to maintain interest and not so daunting as to drive players away. The game is pretty, which counts for allot but not so demanding as higher level graphics engines.

Navigation has been a bit or an issue at first, simply learning how to find some sectors and systems has been at times difficult. But there have been some improvements on this. There is clearly room for more polish and greater depth of story, there are bugs and the usual issues one associates with any new mmo. The game is great now, a year from now it will be freaking awesome, it has that much potential. I believe Cryptic have done a great job so far and deserve credit where credit is due.

...I have seen EXACT same comment somewhere before. To the letter.

Either you're lazy, or being paid to post positive propaganda.

I have to admit I'm a little baffled at all the positive press STO has been getting despite the state of the open beta. I want to like the game, but all I see is the endless mission grinding of CoH all over again with no endgame to speak of.

DD Ape: "I want to like the game, but all I see is the endless mission grinding of CoH all over again... "

Why not start everyone at Admiral with max skill points.

You don't see any endgame to speak of? Wha?

Hmmm...I wonder if that could be because everyone is capped at level 16...

Nope! That can't be it! Cryptic sucks!

Yeah, down with Cryptic! I totally hate it when a game dev posts that it's going to push out a patch to improve mechanics and performance even before it releases! How dare they?! They should just stop trying to get better now, because I've decided they will never be any good and nobody should have any fun playing this game - if they do, they are WRONG and I have to make sure they know it!

I am in the open beta, and yes the game has bugs, but i have to say i realy dont have much problems with the game.
there has been alot of negativity about STO, but thats always the case when a new mmo launches, and i have played alot of them hehe.
Maybe you can call me an optimist but hey thats me, i and i believe that they are working hard to improve the game.

The game is good, but I wont be playing any of it until they fix the god damned "ship on land and no away team for you" bug. I just dont feel like playing when half the missions are gimped by this retarded bug. I have no idea how it made it out of alpha undetected, or closed beta for that matter. My guess is that it's highly related to server stress and lag... but still.

half the game is unplayable with that bug.

I have experianced those two bugs, each time i get the ship on ground or person in space bug, as soon as i move about it fixes itself. With the no away team bug I just press the call for reinforcments button and and my away team beams down. I agree it should not have gotten this far as far as bugs go, but It's never stopped me from playing. I have had more issues with mission ease/difficulty balance myself.

Same for me. there was one time that i went into a building and only one guy came in. At the time, I didn't know about the reinforcement button or the option to just leave the instance and come back.

It's a bugg that wasn't there with closed beta. In fact a lot of bugs got introduced with open beta. We'll see what happens with this next patch. I'm not too concerned though.

I've done enough of these betas now that I really don't focus on technical hiccups and instead deal with content and gameplay.

I wish those of you who stick with this the best but I'm done already. I'm with D.D. Ape on this.

It's not bad, but it's not good either.

On the bad, ground missions are incredibly buggy and unbalanced, PvP is very weak, and the Klingon side of things is very underdeveloped.

Space combat, however, is near perfect. The only improving it needs is true 3D movement (rolling and pointing the nose completely up/down). The idea behind ground combat is sound. And the game as a whole is pretty addictive.

I do have to wonder what there will be to do at level 50, though. It's not like Cryptic will have an endless stream of storyline missions (not the lame repeatable patrol and explore missions) to keep people interested.

I'm in the beta, I hate ground. Its underdeveloped in terms of specials that you can use and beyond buggy. Space is fairly enjoyable but very ill thought out. Maps are too small and very closed in die to having full impulse on tap (small map/high speed movement), fraction balance needs addressing for the level at which we currently playing and no doubt later.

The game looks to have been forced out buy some of the higher powers putting pressure on it. I want to get into the game and be a potential lifetime sub, hell I'm one hell of a Star Trek fan and a avid MMO player. Ultimately I think this game has a short life ahead of it. Only the loyal Trek fan base and FOTM MMO crowd will keep this one afloat.

That said I may be wrong, hell I hope I am its just the amount of stuff missing and unattended to this early to launch is just scary.

Now I got the option, go back to Aion where im lvl48 with good pvp gear (im a Assasin and melle fails in the air), Keep playing Eve Online where Im up to flying Battleships in PvP (long down time) or go Back to Wow(end game like a 2nd job). If only there was an Global agenda beta key out there for me haha.

Ill give this beta till the end of the month then ill either sub for a year and pre-order or sack it up, they better work for my £ now or ill walk.
