Is it just me, or would having gear that degrades INCREASE the need for these 'black market activities'?

Looking at the actual question, farming would still create profit albeit less, and others would need the gear more, so it would seem to all cancel out.

" "Gold farming" at pure profit is also difficult to do when every use of an item contributes toward wearing that item out and allows us to balance micro-expenses against expected reward."

Time is money. Right? As long as my time per hour at my job provides an amount of currency greater than that hour spent within game there will be a gap that the market will move to fill. By creating artificial barriers to that market, you don't decrease that market, you simply increase the profit of those who manage to get a product to that market.

I hope that they have the sense to take the EVE solution.

Eve is easily botted, that's where the isk to sell (outside of CCP's program) comes from. Without botting, farmers would have a hard time making enough currency to sell for profit. They'd have to spend all their time on once character (time is money remember?) instead of having bots run many. Also, the guards in ER are not uber like Concord, so players will be able to kill the farmers more easily once identified.

Unfortunately that attitude is all too prevalent today, feeding off the demand for everything to be provided now without any effort.

I yearn for a return to the days when people were able to separate their day job from their evening hobby and not regard the two as somehow interlinked. Wishful thinking, of course, it'll never change now. We're stuck forever with players happy to cheat and buy off professional criminals who will feed the demand and steal a few accounts and identities along the way. Shame.
