utakata, no, these ships are manned by thousands of individuals on the battleship scale. because of maintenance, and many functions onboard the ship. imagine the capsuleer as a captain. not as the entire ship. they are merely far more effective captains because they can feel the ship. they can lock targets on their own, move the ship as they will without having to relay these commands to a crew. but crew is necessary to calibrate weapons, keep bulkheads maintained, and a thousand other tasks that you would find on a naval warship of today. since in the ingame lore, Advanced AI was banned by the ingame police force because of its propensity to kill its creators.

i will now list approximate ship crew numbers from ship classes to give you an idea of how many people serve aboard these vessels.

1 or 2 crew on a smaller frigate
300-500 crew on a cruiser
2000 to 3000 crew on a battle cruiser
6000+or- crew on a battleship
10000 to 14000 crew on a carrier and dreadnaught
30k on a mothership
and 50k on a titan.

I presume the crew is not made up of individual players, Iture...that would make one hell of a raid for a titan class ship. /boggle

Seriously though...thanks for you and Norwood clarifying that for me. As you can see I do not play the game, so I am vastly ignorant about it's mechanics. I just found the video demo rather fascinating. And I was curious to know what constituted their bulk in a space environment.

Though it's too bad they have issues with AI's...they're really not that bad. *Goes back to reading Blame!...*

Pretty much what Iture said. Also, many of the duties on a capsuleers ship can be performed by simple AI and additional on-board machinery as well, further reducing the amount of real crew needed. It isn't uncommon in eve lore to have battecruisers or even battleships piloted by capsuleers to have as few as 100-200 real people serving on the ship, since the capsuleer can pretty much control every engineering-related task on the ship, operate guns and reloading mechanisms, activate nanite pumps, etc etc, with his thought alone. It's a lot more than just being able to control the ship with his mind, it's more akin to him actually becoming part of the ship.

The ships are standard military/civilian craft, but in the game when you fly them, they are simply modified to fit a capsule.

What I wanted to say about the video, is that even the 1/20 scale model seems kinda small. When he places Kleiner up there next to the cockpit, it doesn't seem like he could actually fit in there standing up. The scale of the model or the scale of Kleiner may be off. An in-game measuring tool would help get the correct length (53 m).

My 2 cents.

Oh, forgot to mention. The size of the OTHER frigates seems correct however. It's just the rifter that seems a bit small to me.

In EVE Online size matters! lol, anyways its nice to finally see how big these ships really are. Just doesn't change my mind about playing anytime soon, takes to long to get going in game.

That doesn't mean this isn't a good game, just it doesn't appeal to me like it does to all the people that play it.
