QFT, doesn't matter how big something "really is" if there is never a case in which that scale would become apparent. Also yes, eve is boring as hell.

Who thought that going to space, we would want to automate flying, and firing lasers, and be unable to ever leave our ship, but we should stick drag ever single piece of space poo manually.

I always imagine that the capsules are more like little escape pods, or tiny cockpits, and that I'm sitting there in my clothes like any other Han Solo wanna-be.

"omg another eve article why don't you guys just change your name! Just admit you work for CCP!"

There, did I get the EVE hater rant correct?

As far as the video, I thought it was neat. But, I wish they would have added the Stalkers or some other earth related objects other than buildings, like and aircraft carrier.

I don't hate Eve but all the Eve and Second Life coverage does get a little annoying.
I don't think it's favoritism, probably more that they just work with what info they get and they get more info from CCP/the Eve community.

Would be nice if there were some kind of quota.' Ok, already had 5 Eve articles this week, the blurb about a RANDOM VIDEO ABOUT EVE SHIP SCALE (!!!!) isn't exactly breaking MMO news. It's sort of interesting, but why is it here?

Ships to scale against each other in image form: http://canabinko.com/eve/images/ships_of_eve.jpg

Kind of pointless really - the size of the ships is only comparable to the other models in the game (ie: the scale of the entire game). I can make a shield in WoW look huge if I am comparing it against models from an Ant Farm game...

After re-reading my comment it may not be as clear as I intended. Basically, this video is assuming the Half Life 2 model of a person is the same size as a model of a person would be in Eve.

If, a model of a person in Eve would be twice as big, then the ships don't seem as large (although they still are pretty impressive). Then again, if the model of a person in Eve is only 60% the size of a HL2 player model, well - those ships are a lot bigger than is portrayed here.

The length of each ship in meters is included with the ship description. Last I checked wow doesn't have this feature. Next time you log in see for yourself.

@enkrpyt
I am not refuting that I am saying the video itself - the comparison of the scale of one game against the scale of another is worthless. I'm not disputing the fact that the ships models are huge.

Michael, stop being difficult. He's not comparing "the scale of one game against the scale of another". He's scaling things in relationship to their real world dimensions (e.g. meters). So it doesn't matter what game his human model is from, Half-Life or whatever. If that Kleiner model is 2.8 meters tall, putting it next to a ship that is 200 meters in length shows the size contrast using a constant variable (meters). Gary's Mod has these measurements on file, so you can confirm it numerically. That's the whole point of a scale comparison.

That being said, I think EVE underestimated the size of their ships, because when set to scale, the bridges and cockpits look rather dinky. But if that's the case, it's not this video guy's problem, it's a problem with the EVE specs he's working from.

@Lemmo
Wasn't trying to be difficult and thank you for mentioning that Gary's MOD has those features - I had no idea. Therefore, my argument in regards to scale is unjustified.

I agree with you on the cockpits but I think it works for Eve, they have a very stylistic approach which I enjoy more-so than a realistic approach.

It's amazing when you realize a battleship is only 1/20 the size of a Titan.

I knew the ships were big (Rifter roughly the size of a Boeing 747, and some battleships a kilometer long). But I didn't realize they were this big. Amazing video, really makes me hope you'll be able to walk in your ship in an update after Incarna.

Ahh he is using the valve engine. Now imagine that CCP will decide to make everything to scale and allow the avatar to walk around the battleship much like you can walk around ships in SWG, and still see the active game in space through a window.

The question now is not that they are big, but why they have to be that big. Is it to do with the propulsion systems and fuel taking up a large pecentage of the ships scale to propel the ship to FTL travel? or is it the amunition and fire power require a ridiculous amount of space? Or both? Since I am assuming only one person is piloting the craft, that is the player...it seems to me to be an awful lot of spaceship for one individual.

Ships in Eve have a crew besides the capsule pilot, the Rifter (first ship he showed) has a three person crew (I think), In the Eve fiction when an apocalypse (Amarr Battleship, about the size of the megathron) blows up it mentions there were over 6,000 casualties. Presumably there were even more survivors.

"Four months later, Daren Athaksis was confirmed as one of six-thousand three-hundred and fourteen reported casualties resulting from the destruction of the Apocalypse-class battleship "Dam-Imud." His post was filled within three days. His family was not notified."

The scale in Eve is pretty massive the 1400mm artillery that Minmatar BS's use are effectively firing a volkswagon car ever shot.
