This sounds kind of vague as to exactly what sort of editorial content for these games you will actually be providing. But I will be looking forward to it nonetheless. I'd ask though, that you leave the more WoW-focused content to your sister site WoW.com

Sounds great guys!
And no, we don't need forums, luckily developers and fan-boys take care of those!
Although, 'Links to these communities' maintained by community liaisons, could get interesting stories from those 'communities' I think. Anyway, let's see what great stories Massively brings us 2010!

How can there be even more STO posts, you've already reached critical mass (or saturation point, in my case).

You must be new here. It happens with each and every new major MMO.

Mind you I actually played STO last night and was very impressed.

I have to admit, after playing STO the past two days I'm actually enjoying the game. Still seems overly simplified, but I guess you gotta to whatever you gotta do to get that big audience.

Maybe with this new addition to Massively they'll start turning into a gaming organization with official guilds in games. Just an idea.

"Wouldn’t it sever better to force your journalists to play a game they aren’t level capped or vested emotionally into the game?"

Please see what happens when I try to talk seriously about Aion or Darkfall. I end up getting 20 million angry e-mails telling me how much I suck because I know nothing about their game. Or the e-mails that tell me how I'm so wrong, even when I'm basing things off of my own play experience and the play experience of others.

But, let's go with your side of things. Let's say I start talking about EverQuest II because I play EverQuest II. Now you believe I'm biased because I'm talking about a game I'm playing and happen to have more knowledge of. I'm no longer a knowledgeable subject, my perspectives are obviously tainted because I have shown a preference for a game.

Damned both ways, my friend. Damned both ways.

Also, these new columns are rote news articles that talk about the states of certain games, their activities, and their community. Not opinion based columns.

I'm confused as to how this will be different, other than actually calling your editorials, editorials. :) I'm kidding -- sorta. Well not really. But I think you are saying we're going to get more columns like your weekly EVE entries -- probably for shiny new games that everyone hypes but no one actually plays. *cough*

No forums is a great call, however.

Rather than just seeing you guys go deeper vertically into the same games...I'd rather see you guys branch out horizontally into other game spaces that are 'massive'. 70+ million players in FarmVille, and there are just starting to be multiplayer spaces in Facebook games. In addition, more virtual world coverage here would be great other than the occasional Second Life post by Tateru. I'd love to see you guys branch out into more virtual world and social/casual gaming spaces.

Stay tuned :) That's exactly what we plan to do. There's not a lot we can specify right now because so many factors (beyond our control) need to fall into place, but yes, that's part of the plan.

To be honest, if Massively "branches out" into FarmVille or Mafia Wars territory, I'd likely delete my bookmark. The word Massively in of itself to me is indicative of a persistent multi-player environment. Not some bizarre lackluster interactive application that my non/casual gamer friends spam my social networking site with. I can't even fathom what anyone could report about regarding these apps.

This is one of the few places I can come and get intelligent (albeit sometimes biased) news, information, opinions, and advice regarding a genre I love. A quick search would show there are hundreds of legitimate MMOs, the vast majority of which get little to no coverage on this site. I would say expand in that direction before considering the painful alternative that could stand to alienate many if not most of your readers.

Ok, quick clarification: I was responding to Cuppy's second part of her comment. Sorry for the confusion.

The site is not changing direction at all. That's not what this is about. Think of it like WoW.com's class columns, but with the triple-A MMOs. There are also plans to establish columnists for specific genres of MMOs, like F2P, Virtual Worlds, etc. With the refocus, these types of things will be explored more closely, but will not take over the front page. That way, if you want to read it, you can. If you don't, you don't. Right now everything filters through the front page, which is a mess.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

Kudos! I for the most part enjoy the articles here at massively and think more in depth coverage is an excellent idea.
