In my experience (having lived half my life in England and half in Poland), boxed copies of EQII expansions are rarer than hens' teeth.

This is excellent news for all EQ2 players around the world. Some Canadian players are still concerned about the "ISP locked" issues, and still need some confirmation to how accurate this ISP system will work for them, but for those of us further afield this really is the news we wanted to hear. Here's hoping it all works out smoothly for us all.
EQ2 really is a fabulous game, and the expansion looks like it could be the best one yet (yes I'm in beta, and have been suitably impressed with it all so far!).

The heck SOE, you know every time an expansion releases and you give different editions of the the game different extras and bonuses people ALWAYS cry out about it, every single year.

I just don't know why they don't just release all editions with exactly the same stuff in them, unless there's a physical figurine in the boxed version or something.

I get it's not as easy as it sounds to distribute and find partners but they've had a few years to figure out. Hopefully one day they'll have it down pat. lol

Expansions getting shelf-space is the rarity nowadays, unless you're a Blizzard game. And I'm talking in the US here, let alone what they could do for an imported game outside the US.

Take Walmart for example. You'll see a Full shelf for Wow and its expansions, the next shelf will have the Diablo Battle chest, then the WoW battle chest, maybe a Starcraft in there somewhere (varies).

Then copies of Aion, Champions Online, The Sims 3 + expansions. The Breadwinners. Why would you bump them for something you might sell 10 copies of?

Not to mention in general, the Console space is completely taking over the PC areas in most electronic departments of retail stores. What used to be 24 feet of glorious PC games is often down to 12, 8 in a few I've seen. Its HARD to get the retail guys to carry the boxed versions anymore, and really, buying the box is a dated system anyway.

Much like the newspaper, its much easier to get it online.

Oh, and i LOVED EQ2 btw, I wasn't trying to bag on it, just giving a diff perspective. Its a battle for that floor space

The whole reason this has happened is because SOE wanted the expansion to have a physical presence in US stores on the release day (Feb 16th). They made a deal with some US retailers that they would sell the expansion exclusively to them 7 days before the Digital Download would be available (Feb 23rd). That's fine, as long as you can get hold of a retail box on the 16th, anyone outside of the US cannot, as they do not have any international distributors setup this time. You can order it from a US retailer, but your highly unlikely you'll get it (or the cd key) on the 16th. And you'll have to pay overseas delivery charges. To get a box sent to the UK doubles the price.

So yeah, the worldwide EQ2 players were a little outraged. And now 2 months and a 65 page rant on the EQ2 forums later we finally have confirmation that SOE are doing the right thing and letting those that cannot get a box have the DD on the 16th.

Phew!

Hardly an exclusive; SOE posted it several hours before you and ZAM was 6 minutes behind you.

Yes, we understand this.

In short, it's a long story that shall not be further discussed.
