i have been looking forwards to GA for an age now. i am a little irritated by it being a steam exclusive (and at £31 its not even a cheap one) but this said i WILL be buying it later this month.

I think that maybe there is not enough premium content to make it worth a full price subscription but until i play it properly i can't really say that can i.

lets wait and see, i wish the team the best of luck and hope to be jumping in on day one

Holy crap! It's a Steam-exclusive?

I was going to buy it (having played it at Dragon*Con). But I've had such a bad experience with CoD MW2 being Steam-only that I'm just going to have to pass unless/until they change their minds.

sounds like big agencies will have an edge over small agencies in Conquest. that kinda sux. i'd also hope territories have decent built in defences, because not everyone in the agency can be online at the same time to help defend.

You can always ally with other agencies and defend land as many agencies united under one banner. Diplomacy matters.

It also sounds as if there's no soloing in this game.

One of the features I enjoyed about the online FPS game "Tribes" was that you could pop into a game for a few minutes, see what was missing on your side and go do that and actually make a difference without talking to or working WITH anyone.

In other words, if you found yourself with 10 minutes ot play a game you could hop in, actually make a difference and then pop back off without infuriating anybody that you "abandoned" them.

It looks like these guys are looking for pretty big timeblocks to even play this game.

If soloing's your thing, then you can easily play the freelance PvP and PvE missions without touching Conquest mode. That's what me and my roommate do every night because we're not in an agency at the moment, and we have a blast.

But, if you want to work with an agency in a persistent setting and work towards the high end gear, then you need to join an agency and work as a group. *shrugs* But, hey, you can even work a solo member there, joining defenses that may not have the full 10 people and make a quick difference before you log off.

The game gives you options. Lots of options.

I miss Tribes. That was a great team-based shooter.

What happens if you can't field enough players to defend your hex? Do the attackers face bots?

If so, is there any way to affect the quality of these bots?

is there any cooldown timer after a successful defense that prevents repeat zerg rushes? how long does a "hot period" usually last?

Minor correction: if stuff is blown "sky high" then its lost forever and you have to rebuild it.

Like losing a ship in Eve, you dont get given a new one.

I thought that was clear, but I'll change the wording to make sure it's crystal clear.

When it's lost, it's gone for good until you make another.

So far the game is very diplomatic and strategic.

Pro-tip: Tonight our agency engaged another agency in a war over their territory. They quickly spoke to their alliance and had them attack our hex, we had to back out (was a pretty small agency) to go defend. Once we arrived at our base, the other team did not engage because they saw that we had left that other match. So sneaky :P

I am enjoying the Risk element which has been added, however I am curious:

Are the agencies only for battling, or can you visit/walk around in other peoples agencies?

This is very similar in concept to the Notum Wars "booster" that came out for Anarchy Online years ago.

Only GA has gorgeous graphics, better controls, and no Atroxes with cabbages in their pants.
