Italian fansite mmorpgitalia.com spent some time recently with Bill Roper, talking about where Champions Online stands four months after release, and where they are going from here.
Roper answered some popular questions regarding issues such as the social aspect of Champions Online, the game's level of completion (or lack thereof) at launch and how Cryptic has progressed from there.
The interview also covered questions about Cryptic's upcoming plans for CO, such as the upcoming secret identity mechanic. It's an exciting idea for players, but one that Roper's not quite ready to divulge in detail about yet: "We're in the early design stages of this feature, so I'm not ready to talk about it. One of the things I have learned about communicating ideas is that once it's in an interview, it becomes gospel no matter how much you qualify it as being "mere ideas" or "discussions.""
The full interview covers these points in more detail and several others as well, and is a good read for anyone interested in Champions Online.

Holy cow! Did I type this? Someone get these fools a spellcheck. At least tell them to take their gloves off.
I'm not really sure how secret identities could be any fun. Am I gonna use them to sneak up on enemies? Maybe I could do some investigative work as Joe Blow Schmucatelly and find out where ethe lair is before I go on the mission. I think CoH had something where you logged out in a certain spot and that was your day job. I think you got a buff or something like that the longe4r you were off. I can't remember. Not really overly thrilled about that either. In fact I'm sure if I logged in my characters would not be on one of those spots right now.

Zero hate/love comments so far? I guess everyone is too busy with STO to care now. Anyone guess how long until CO will become F2P with STO sub?

You can bet if STO doesn't come out of the gate blazing and hold onto subs like CO, you're gonna see some kind of combo deal. I wonder how my lifetime would play into that. Probably not at all. QQ

They have been quite of late...perhaps the dev team has been too busy with helping with STO, so they've put CO on maintenance with the occasional bone thrown in just to make their customers feel they are not entirely forgotten.

As long as they don't half-ass it like Day Jobs in CoX, I am excited by the news. Too many MMOs forget about non-combat play. Just like some action movies that blow, you can't just have all action all the time. You need to give the audience time to breathe and contemplate. Once the action starts up again, it is all the more exciting than if you had nothing but fighting. It's a lesson I learned from screenwriting and I believe applies to MMOs. I've read a few posts on the forums where players just can't stay logged in for more than an hour or two before getting bored. CO is basically all combat so fight level 5s probably won't feel much different than fighting level 35s if there is no contrast in gameplay.
I'm glad the devs are looking at non-combat play. I can't believe anyone that has read comic books would not want this feature. /boggle

@Stark1
I agree with you! Combat is not everything in MMO's and I feel like it really isn't developed as much as it should be. I believe this is an integral part which really helps add to the believability and feel of the game!
Non combat content turns the game from a battlefield to a living breathing world!
I really hope they manage to pull this off well, it could be very interesting!

They've mentioned at least one new villain lair coming, and talked in fairly vague terms about a big content push coming early this year. Keep hoping for more info on that. WILL SEND COOKIES, CRYPTIC!

I like it, I hope they can deliver it successfully.
though most of my characters are based on been full time on suit I guess I will have to create one or two that could have secret identities.
