Open beta is here and launch isn't far behind, which is of course why we're starting to see stuff like the recently revealed faction page for Star Trek Online. While you can't look (or click) on them now, it's quite telling that Cardassian and Romulan faction symbols are there for the looking. Cryptic has been pretty open with the fact that they plan to add new factions in the future, but the upfront listing of them causes us to wonder what the schedule is for the launch of faction number three.
We really love the approach to this faction page, too. Why? Selecting a faction gives you the perspective of said faction, but from each side. That is to say, you get a Klingon's point of view of their own Empire, as well as the Federation. It's a nice touch of Trek that shows the men and women at Cryptic are keen to stick to the spirit of the series, even when outside of their own game.

Do Klingons have an auction house (or equivalent)?
Yes
Do Klingons have crafting professions?
I think so, not entirely sure. I tend to avoid crafting at all costs ever since DAoC.
Do Klingons have end-game PvE encounters?
Not really, I guess they do technically. I never really tried to find them I just went straight to the PVP with them.

The Klingon side appears to have been written by a 12 year-old.
"Meddlesome do-gooders?" "The current president is black, but I'm totally sure he doesn't do anything the white guys don't want?" (I paraphrase to lampshade the inanity.)
Nothing at all about the Federation's lack of honor or warrior spirit?
Who are these lobster-headed one-note black hats, and what have they done with the "real" or "actual" Klingons?

Though I agree with you about the Klingon writing, it really wasn't much better in the vast majority of the shows and/or movies.

This confused me at first, but that's actually the Klingon opinion from the Federation's perspective. If you click on the Klingon icon at the top then you'll see two completely different write-ups on the Klingons AND Federation, both from the Klingon perspective, which are totally different.
Not sure why they did it that way, but there ya go.

well i try not to complain until i get to try something out, but i will say i was a lil sad from the get go, cause as a crafter/businessman i so wanted to navigate the Great Material Continuum as a Ferengi, i just know i have the lobes to make piles of latinum. So i guess nothing to do but keep living by the Rules of Acquisition..

I'm going full PvP on this one, Klingon all the way.
I wasn't impressed with this game during beta, but you know, it's new and I'm bored really, that's a bit sad when deciding to purchase games isn't it.... Come on SW:ToR, hurry up....

I'm just a little bit irked that companies are trying to change the definition of "Open Beta" now. Open Beta means it's open, everybody is allowed in. It's not supposed to just mean it's a stage before release. Maybe they should call it a pre-release beta, or preview, or something else. It's certainly not an Open Beta. I've pre-ordered the game so I have access to it, I'm not someone complaining who isn't able to get in, I'm complaining because it's not a true open beta if it's not open to all... That's the whole definition of "open" in Open Beta...
It used to be a true testing stage, especially for server structure and things. Now it's offered as a "reward" if you are pre-ordering or something else. I'm just frustrated with them using the Open term when it's not really Open.

The definition has changed over the years and Cryptic isn't the first to use it this way. Incidentally, there are places giving out keys from what I've been reading on massively.

Honestly i only got a few hours with the Klingons, so I can not answer wheether ther is endgame pve. Not sure about auction house either. You should come back for a little bit, JP. There's been a lot of improvement since you left.

That's a nice looking webpage. Alivet does some great writing, they should have let her write in game missions.

I'm still hoping they bring in some of the scenarios that were used in that contest. I haven't read them, but since I didn't win, they must all be better than mine. And that can't hurt.

Bad enough they have to come up with full content for the Klingons to satisfy all the whiners, but Romulans and Cardassians "factions", too? Just how fleshed out were their societies, anyway? Did they have any allies at all? (Looks like the Gorn are hooking up with the Empire. So that would leave, who, the Breen? The Tholians?) Why not put all that much extra work into Starfleet instead?

Gorn, Orions, Nausicans, and you can make your own race as well.
