The overlords are busy sounding like demonic cows getting shot by marines and or wraiths.

I don't think this article is accurate. The Star Trek Online site states:

"The person who submitted each winning name first will receive a Digital Deluxe Edition of the game and a poster featuring the ship they named. Additionally, they, and everyone else who submitted the winning name for a particular Starship Class will receive the unique in-game title, 'Utopia Planetia Staff.'"

The in-game title is not for all contest participants. It's just for people who submitted the winning names but weren't the FIRST to do so, because only the first submission of each name wins the grand prize.

Actually there is a link of leaked names. Real or not the link to the rules and the names simply do not match the intent. Imagination, creativity and something to do with the particular ship (i didnt read the whole rule set) but the names presented as winners were not imaginative nor did they match the ship type or creativity. Many, many others had more merit.

The winners are common names found in any english dictionary. No, imagination, no word smithing involved to create new names with specific ship meanings dealing with the lore of STO.

Just some minor observations, but then the devs making that game did the judging, seems in line with what they have so far invested in the.......game.

All the names that aren't the ones I suggested are stupid.

Not everyone with an opinion is a jerk.

There's two valid opinions and one bigoted one. I'm not going to jump on any one of these opinions bandwagons here since this discussion has already run it's course on the STO forums.

It's funny though... Your reaction to the use of this new "internet slang" is quite Dervish. Petty and silly would be continuing the argument that started and ended on the same day the ship was named.

Destiny? Really? Makes me think of something an exotic dancer would name her daughter.

I think Dervish is the only decent name among the winners. "Destiny" class? Way to rip off the new Stargate spin-off. "Emissary" class? How about "Ambassador" class while we're at it? Maybe "Messenger" class so none one can confuse it!

Whoever picked the winners clearly lacks imagination and ingenuity, and perhaps an interest in something new that might fit the canon.

This really just enforces my lack of faith in Cryptic's abilities..

Um the enterprise NC-1701 C was an Ambassador class ship so their already way ahead of you on that. No messenger class though that I can think of
