One of the names we keep hearing in terms of community buzz amongst the free-to-play titles heading for the market is Allods Online. People are comparing it to World of Warcraft, and with screenshots like the one above, we can understand why. The art, while not exact, is certainly very similar. The developers of Allods Online, Astrum Nival, have apparently taken the "if you can't beat them, join them" approach. We'll have to wait and see if it works. For now, we have this screenshot to enjoy, along with a note sent in to us from Pedro R. who writes in: [This is a] view of the main plaza from the League capital city. This game really has amazing graphics and [a] great storyline.
Are you really enjoying a new title, particularly one we perhaps haven't had a chance to see as yet? Why not take a screenshot of something interesting and send it in to us? You can reach us at oneshots AT massively DOT com -- and be sure to send along your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post it out here and give you the credit!

It's a downloadable free-to-play -- or will be when it releases. It's currently in closed beta, although they don't have an NDA in place. I don't believe the item mall is currently in place in the American version. I can't speak to the others.
If you're in America, the game is being released by Gpotato:

If you're elsewhere in the world, you'll want to go to the Allods Online main site and click the relevant flag for your proper localization:

Allods looks nothing like World of warcraft, there are similarities, both are MMO's both use character progression, both have wildly (wide) scaled damage variances, both are stat dependant, but thats where the similarities end, though Allods damage window is so huge from min to max damage being applied as to make the game distasteful.
The artwork is nothing like WOW, stylistic muted colors and a world using heavy russian influence, including the structures, vehicles and "fantasy" terrain, give it an odd, toothy feel, one i do not care for. Quite a few of the "monster types are pulled directly from russion and european myth (no virginia, orc type do not belong to WOW)
People comparing Allods to WOW is ignorant at best, Its like comparing a banana and a plantain, both have a few similarities, but both are completely different things.
Though free to play, i will pass on this one, i can already see the online store being used to get stats and gear where they should be normally, but then if they didnt do it this way they wouldnt make money in their F2P model.
As usual, ranged and magic ranged rules in pvp. close up melee need not apply.

I hear the same old arguments with why Warhammer isn't a ripoff of WoW ("WoW copied Warhammer!" "WoW copied Everquest"!)
As much as people claim "it's not a copy," a duck is still a duck, no matter how you paint it. You compare the two side by side and the similarity is self-evident.
If this game is free to play, maybe they will find some success, but it's doubtful. No one can do WoW like Blizzard can. To try and copy it is a recipe for failure.
The only company that I see pulling it off is Star Wars TOR (I know, I know "SWTOR copies KOTR, not WoW!" - lame argument).
I guess it is just the way video game business works. Even EVE, now becoming the popular game of choice isn't safe from copycats:

Dude, I think Allods is awesome, but saying the art style is NOTHING like wow, while insulting people who thinks it is, makes you look like an idiot my friend. Not the other way around.

Thanks for the details on the PvP system in place. It can be difficult to get details on this sometimes as people realise - correctly - that such information can put off certain people. I think it's better to be open about it however, and to appeal to the right market instead of confusing those who are strictly interested in a PvE experience (a la Spellborn.)
As you said it might not ship to market with an Open system so we'll need to wait and see.

This game looks as much like WoW as much as Borderlands looks like Jet Grind Radio.

This game is currently competing for my time (Fallen Earth being the other).
The graphics are very attractive, and the Art Dept has done some beautiful work. So far the eye candy is in no short supply, and theres a lot to see.
A lot of the gameplay is WoW familiar but not exact. It has its own flavor. I'd say the familiarities are enough to make you comfortable getting into the driving seat but once you go... its a different ride.
I like the fact that it hails from Russia. It gives the game a nice bit of subtle culture. For me its somewhat neat to see so many Russian sounding names, and seeing various in-game scenery signs with Russian lettering. I hope it all stays and dosn't get translated further.
The ONLY bad thing I really have to say about Allods... is this: Why did a game like this end up as a "Free-to-Play" model? So far this one looks really promising, and I would have gladly paid a monthy fee to have access to a game without gimics like cash shop items. Oh well... can't have it all I guess.

@Amana: It's true. Pretty quiet in there. But I think the game shines in enough areas that I'll definitely give it my full MMO attention when it launches. The art style alone is so good that it makes me excited to just explore everything in the world.

Oh - agreed, in that it's easily one of the more interesting and 'done-well' F2P's out there without doubt.
It just really baffles me why some details (such as the distinct lack of sound and sound-effects throughout the game) are absent. Running around the city (and a lot of other areas) as an Elf are completely silent experiences, which makes for some awful playtime (for me, anyhow).
But more importantly, I'm getting the feeling that the game is 'done' already. As in, there have been no patches in the last 2 CB's, and the 'new' content for CB2 was simply an 'unlock' (no downloaded content patch was required between CB1 & 2).
My (hopefully incorrect) guess is that it's 'done' and due to budget or similar we're not going to see any player-requested features for a looooong time, if at all.
Sadly, for me, a lot of those missing features are deal-breakers.
I've got my fingers crossed for a nice big patch for CB3..

We should start banning WOW players from commenting on these posts. They still think that everyone in the world as played and enjoyed WOW, and that there are no other games out there that deserve attention. WE KNOW, every MMORPG is a wow clone.
I've been playing MMO for years and NEVER played WOW, so get off your high horse and go troll the WOW forums.
I started playing Allods online yesterday. The game is really interesting and well developed. Unlike most modern MMO releases, it runs smoothly and looks really amazing and fun to play. I'm not a fantasy fan at all "I play EVE mostly" but have to admit that this title has put many commercial MMOs to shame.
If you want to play it and find out what it's like, I advise you to give it a try. It's free you know!!!

It's the first time i see a One-Shots piece getting 32 comments about a game in here.
I think it indicates the potential this game holds and the fact that untill now it has proven to be a great experience despite some minor hurdles.
Unforrtunately, i share the same preocupations of Amana and agree with Cowy. Why oh why did they do this as free to play??? Why not produce it as pay to play?? I can see this severely affecting the development of the game later on as well as not making the devs woork on the areas where the game really needs to develop.

Are we saying then that from level 20 onwards it's entirely PvP only? That's a good way to say goodbye to 90% of the potential market. Or is that because they're either testing PvP balance post-20 or haven't added any PvE content above 20?
