Hoping it'll be good since Blizzard seemed to move their "A Team" away from WoW and over toward working on that game.

Awh... A FPS?
Oh well, blessing in disguise. There are so many MMO's that sparked my interest for this year (yes, WOW's Cata xpac included) that I wasn't sure I could squeeze in a new MMO from Blizz as well. The new Final Fantasy XIV online, has me most interested, having played FFXI for years. I'm also interested in Funcom's "Hidden World" mmo (mostly from an unrelated-yet-related love of the Dreamfall/Longest Journey games).
The more I think about it... the more I really do hope its a FPS so I can avoid it. I want something fresh. Something to rekindle my love of fantastic graphics, intriguing puzzles, wondrous mysteries, and amazing storytelling.

A FPS? nope. That's not it. I like a bit of intellect in my game. Not "Dur... lets shoot sumpin' ".

With the recent reporting in the tech world about "3D TV" replacing HD, I can fully see the MMOFPS market picking up in the console. But that's only if the 3D technology allows full immersion with the environment. Apparently there's a lot of money being put behind this new media advancement, and the companies involved are set to put a lot of commercial pressure on us "the consumers" to buy-in to this particular technology, stating that, "within 5 years, 90% of Americans will own 3D media devices (may I be the first to coin the term "tri-vid")".

If the 3D tri-vid technology is going to be THAT successful in THAT period of time, then it comes as no surprise that a good proportion of the gaming industry is starting to look at console mmo fps/tps as the "next generation" of gaming.

We shall soon see, no?

Either "tri-vid" or, to evolve the idea of "tee-vee" from the old tele-vision, we get "three-vee" or "3V".

In response to my own comments, lets put a few ideas down in list form, shall we?

Activision, Call of Duty, Blizzard, MMOFPS rumors
+
Sony, Sony 3DTV, Sony Touchscreen, Sony PS3, SOE employee headhunting
+
Massive industry push for console MMO prospects (including, but not limited to: DUST 514, Planetside 2, Call of Duty, etc., etc.)

I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

By the way, I'm available for hiring if you think your company can benefit from this sort of insight. Thanks.

Sounds like a reboot of the old Shadowrun game.

I have wanted a good MMOFPS for a long time. The only way I generally care about an FPS is during multiplay, and I think that Blizzard has learned a lot about PvP through WoW to finally do it right in this rumored game, if that's what it is. Planetside always interested me, but I heard enough "mehs" in the crowd to steer away.

A cyberpunk landscape sounds neat. It certainly would be a different kind of game than WoW and avoid just being WoW2, which is what I feared would happen, no matter the property.

And I thought that it would be a Ninja Turtles theme.
I was completely fooled.

Could be a good thing. I like the idea of a cyberpunk genre. Maybe something like Shadowrun, done correctly.

Modern + Fantasy

*shakes fist at Microsoft for ruining a great concept.

Most people here probably haven't tried PlanetSide or WWII Online. MMOFPS games have an entirely different feel when compared to generic online shooters. There aren't many, but I hope it stays that way with this new wave of them on the way.

I'll be very disappointed if they take the same approach Global Agenda did, with a common lobby where you queue up for a matchmade game. That is not an MMO imo. I'd expect this kind of thing from IW, but Blizzard and at the very least SOE should know better. The level of persistance in Planetside is what made it so unique and fun, despite its issues.
