Thanks for the fascinating perspective on being a journalist covering these games!

Your should write your reviews like Spider Jerusalem hehe.
"Accepting the fact that your a bunch of idiots I will try and use very small words for the next few paragraphs...."
Your going to get hated on anyways, might as well have a freaking good time at it!

lol It wouldn't be a massively thread without "Sakura Park" or "NGE" thrown into the comments somewhere.

Sera, you're a hell of a writer, and one of my favorites here at Massively. While I'd love to say "oh, you couldn't pay me to do your job", its not true. You totally could, Or anyone else here. Please? lol. I appreciate the insight into the job and what you guys and gals go thru to bring us all here and keep us coming back.

I also respect the hell out of the fact that, besides all the negatives associated with the job, you've been able to keep your passion and keep your love for your job.

Good on ya.

Aion. I never understood "fanbois" response. "Oh, you just didn't play it long enough" I preordered, was in head start and couldn't stomach it any longer once I finally got one (of many) characters to 20. Does that mean my opinion that the game is a pretty grindfest that promised "Change" but only brought more of the same generic bullcrap?

Nope, it was a disappointment. I honestly think that's an opinion that IS pretty close to fact lol.

Look, I don't like hearing that Everquest is a dated, boring grindfest on its way to sunset. Wow players don't like hearing that their game is handed to them, and no one likes to hear their game of choice is a failure or disappointment. Nature of the beast, me thinks.

Really. How long do you have to play a game to form an opinion. Like the wiseman said, it don't talk a whole day to reco'nize sunshine.

my opinion is this, if you made it to lv 17 and the game didnt keep you wanting to come back, whos fault is that? yours or the games?

we play games to have fun, its funny that fans of games attack others for not forcing themselves to play a game to the end which could cause displeasure.

so, the burden of fun lies in the game because you invested ample time (as did, i having made it also to my high teens) into this game. if you werent inspired to play on then either the games genre is not for you or the game has poor design flaws.

how could it ever been the gamers fault? if i find a game thats fun, no matter how popular or un-popular, im going to play it. i was once a fan of WoW, and i know thats not the most "hip" thing to say now because theres actual games out now that have evolved more in my opinion. where as back in '04 you had anarchy online, dark age and EQ2. so of course most of us would choose a game with no between combat down time and a fun aesthetic.

I often choose to not comment (or read them because, jeez...), but you're certainly appreciated in Austin. Keep it up!

Unfortunately, the anonymous nature of the internet tends to cause some people to act very harsh and uncaring.

Most of the folks that bash you would never do it in person.

Its kinda like some people when they get behind the wheel of a car they tend to turn in to Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when they are out of it.

Don't take it too hard, Seraphina. Imagine how the game developer's feel when all of these armchair game programmers and designers start telling them how to do their job. All of the unsolicited advice (and general abuse) could explain why so few developers bother to read their own forums -- even if they had time to.

Ohhhh that gets on my nerves sooooooooo much! Nothing like treating devs like idiots who probably have 100 times more qualification then any poster.

Soooo true. Devs get it so much worse than me. (I know, I was a dev for two ARGs and briefly a commercial dev. XD)

All love to all dev teams. We may not always like what they do, but damn do they do it.

I laughed there, when you said "...but damn do they do it." Being a developer is no where near easier then a journalist.

Whenever someone asks what I do and I say I am a game designer, 90% of the responses I get is "Oh, so you get to play games all day?"

And of course, after a small laugh, I would always reply "I wish."

Sometimes, you can't help but laugh at misconceptions!

How do you think a developer feels when a games journalist calls it boring, uninspired and the biggest disappointment in 2009?

=/

Knqui: Ask me how it was when people called the games I worked on "piles of garbage?"

Trust me, I know. I've sat in both chairs.

Seraphina, I've always loved your article- whether I agree or not - and this one is no exception. There are lots of us out there who quietly enjoy you're work. Maybe I'll try and be more vocal to counter some of the interwebs vermin :)

Thanks for the long hours and great reading over the past 2 years.

This seems relevant to you working hard at your job...

When are you gonna get to work on another Resubbed?
It's easily been my favorite feature so far on Massively. =)

Keep up the good work. If you want to put things in perspective, look at how many unique pageviews an article gets and then compare that number to the amount of hatemail you get. Subtract # of hatemail from # of pageviews and the majority of that number is probably the amount of people who read the article and don't hate you. Great huh?!
