For the holidays, Champions Online presented their fans with an especially nice surprise: a gigantic, slavering teddy bear bent on the destruction of...well, everything. So how did you like it?
Randy "Arkayne" Mosiondz is the lead designer for Champions Online who created a forum thread today for fans to give feedback on their first ever winter event. The thread asks for your top three likes, your top three dislikes, and what you would like to see in future holiday events. Players have been giving feedback here and there up until now, but the thread will serve as a central place for the CO design team to hear how the player base feels. They'll take the answers into account as a guide to creating future events, so if there are some things that really stood out to you during the winter event -- either good or bad -- this is the time and place to be heard by the developers. The thread can be found at the official forums, so head over and give your take on the event.

While I do appreciate the devs taking the time to listen to the community and respond to issues brought up, even to the point of bending their plans to the will of the player base, Sakura Park.

Sadly, I did not get to partake in this event as much as I would have liked. most of the time I was on, I was doing actual missions with my brother. The rest of my free time was eaten up by Modern Warfare 2.
I'm sorry, Cryptic!!!! Please don't be cross with me!!
Anyone else do it and have fun? All I did was open a few of the packages and kill a few guys. I wish I wasn't so addicted to cappin foo's.

No. It was way too grindy, with not enough of a reward. People who wanted action figure pieces would just buy them at the AH, at least until the prices skyrocketed. Hunting toys just isn't much fun. And if you want to fully complete the event, you have to hunt down the ultra-rare spawn, which means listening to rumors, bouncing between instances, and hoping you get credit for the kill. The Halloween event killed any desire to do that again.
Very few MMOs get events right straight away, so I'm not real concerned. I just hope they do better next year.

I couldn't agree more. Opening presents and getting attacked with toys was fun, but after playing the entire length of the event I got zero rewards from it.
I couldn't turn in one single thing because I didn't have enough of the parts. I guess I'm not enough of a powergaming addict for them, just a couple of hours a day.

Except that if you understood irony you would understand that my point. Aside from my usual Sakura Park nonsense, it also underlines the fact that Cryptic makes a big show of listening to its player base but then does nothing. As per the Sakura Park issue. The three likes and dislikes idea is good, but there will be no follow-through.
But yeah, it's all just the ranting of a moron, which is why most of the 100+ comments on the STO article a few stories down sight exactly this reason among others as to why they won't be picking up STO

Oh they will listen...if it makes them a fast buck. A month of screaming about the ingame cost of Recons for example got players a solution involving an outgame credit card. So be careful what you wish for. :(

Dude who are you kidding? You do realize that retcons being bought in store was the plan for them before the beta even came out right? I am not a big fan of monthly subs + micro transactions.
lol lets say you bought the game early on.. 50 bucks.. been playing for 4 months which would be another 60 bucks. So how does the company show its love? They make you 6 new capes!!! Cool right? Good now that will be another 6 dollars on top of the $110 you already spent on their game.

I admit, suspect as much Jaiyeson. I was only speculating with my reply by taking that decision at face value. Perhaps that was bad form. :(
But what your suggesting makes Crypitc even more insidious, since they where never upfront with about their original intent. And this does make sense in hindsight though, since many of the constructve suggestions about fixing ingame Retcons was simply and conveniently ignored. As well, this only adds further to my suspicion that the "big nerf" on game release day was a well calculated bait and switch scheme. (As you can see, this is one of the main reasons why I don't want to touch STO...I strongly question Cryptic's integrity.)
As for the phrase I believe you're looking with Sub + MT's is called "nickle and diming." :)

It was an Event that wasnt without issues, such as Clarence not showing up everywhere initially, also nothing to do with the toy drops initially (vendors for trade in for items were not added until after the fact)..
It seemed to follow an increasingly growing trend for Cryptic of nothing working as it should at launch, which does make you wonder why they have the PTS server for testing this stuff if it blatantly isnt working.
There was also the issue of the costume unlocks everyone wanted from the Black Harlequin and Clarence encounters not dropping for those who wanted them irrespective of how many times they did the spawn (and for some it was a LOT). It seemed to be the case of the few 40's at the top of the score list largely getting the drops "IF" they happened, otherwise all anyone else got was a cookie.
After the first week it became abundantly clear that if you were level cap, dont even bother turning up for anything other than the participation in the battle perk.
It did have its positives, the abundance of healing consumables can't be scoffed at, those were/are useful and the various festive Action Figures although purely cosmetic are also a nice collectible touch.

It was a horrible event... Pure grind. For those that weren't there, there were basically 2 things to do: open presents scattered around the world, and fight a giant mecha teddy bear.
Opening presents was just a straight up grind. You click a box, and it either gives you a random item(part of an action figure, a cookie that restores health, or a random present that is used as a turn-in), or spawns 1-3 evil toys that knock your travel power out and attack you(and also drop one of the aforementioned random items). Collect 3 action figure parts, and you get an action figure. Collect 10/50/250 of each random present turn-in(there were 5-6, I forget), and you can get a random piece of gear.
Fighting the teddy bear was an open mission that spawned once per hour per instance. It was a pure DPS race -- the players with the highest DPS had the highest chances of getting a good drop... The rest of the participants literally got a cookie. The teddy bear uses chain knock-back attacks, which if unblocked send you flying 100-200 feet backwards, and take 3/4 or more of your health away. Since he spams these attacks(sometimes 3 times in a row), you spend most of the time blocking, flying through the air, or running back into attack range after flying through the air.
When the event ended, I had 80 of the teddy bears cookies... And none of his drops.

Oh, and Cryptic(being the great communicators that they are) didn't respond to the hundreds of complaints on the forums until the event ended... Despite the event running for like 3 weeks.

I agree: totally a grindfest. Not only that, but it was nearly identical to City of Heroes events in terms of opening presents, battling a giant creature, etc.
As a melee character, I found that dying 4-5 times to Clarence for a measly gingerbread cookie was not worth my time.

I, for one, did not participate in the event too heavily. I opened a few presents, helped down Clarence a few times and enjoyed the snow in the Bank. I didn't participate in Blood Moon to much either: beat on the undead, ran a couple of dungeons, smacked Toka on the ass. I'm not a collector, I'm not nostalgic in MMO's and I'm not an over achiever who wants to keep every scrap of every game I play.
That being said, I think I enjoy events much more than the gamers above because my expectations are not at the same level. I equate that to RL in that I don't make a big deal out of holidays, I don't go broke buying gifts and spreading cheer, I don't build elaborate costumes or create intricate meals. I spend time with those I love and I try to enjoy whatever season it happens to be (most of the big holidays coincide with the seasons anyway).
Life is what you make it. When it gives you snow in the bank, you can complain or you can throw your hat and scarf on and enjoy.
