Everquest 2 is a good game. In fact, leveling from 1 to 80 is far more fun an involving that doing the same feat in World of Warcraft. The problem with EQ2 is that the end-game is not as polished as Warcraft's.

If you're a casual player EQ2 is going to offer you more things than you're likely to be able to do/accomplish. If you're a dedicated raider and end game content is what keeps you playing, stick with World of Warcraft. It's more polished. Case in point, all of the raid zones in the latest EQ2 expansion, The Shadow Odyssey, are simply 6 man group zones repopulated to accommodate a raid. I kept an active EQ2 account until they SOE released Miragul's Planar Shard. I was extremely disappointed that it was just The Crucible dungeon with raid mobs put in. At that moment I reactivated my WoW account and let my EQ2 account run out.

Damn you massively... I ended up buying it hehe, it's installing now, I bought The Shadow Odyssey, and it does include all the other expansions, a bit of a pain in the arse to set up an account with steam and I'm not sure if I will have to pay another 15 to start up a sub.

I honestly just couldn't stand how...well...ugly the game was. Bland graphics and hideous character models really hurts EQ2.

Yea, there are like 50 or so dungeons in the game ranging from easy peasy to omg kill-you-quick raid content. some dungeons even have settings that allow you to set the difficulty of the encounters inside from normal mobs, to hard (1-up, 2-up), to elite (3-up), to epic (x1,x2,x3,x4).

Not to mention that this game has the best alternate advancement system i've seen yet.

SOE has proven to me, in various ways over the years, that they do not deserve another dollar from my wallet.

That said, if you have not yet played EQ2, I heartily recommend that you (hold your nose over SOE's actions and) try it. It is one of the most polished and enjoyable games on the market. I enjoyed it for years and you can't beat it for five bucks.

Everquest 2 is one of the few mmo's out there where you can literally just dungeon crawl to level. I didn't even bother with questing on my dirge until kunark, and got all the way to 70 in about a week and a half. And I missed a lot of the dungeons I really wanted to check out.

The first 10 levels are obviously learn the game levels(and take 30 minutes to an hour max), but from then on its dungeon crawlin time assuming you bring friends, since it's sort of a ghost town in the low levels now. But with a group of 3 (preferably the holy trinity) it's an awesome experience.

Or you can quest, but I am so sick of questing after WoW...

For ugly models... SOGA. When EQ2 launched in Asia they redid the models to be more anime-ish. Basically if you thought the original toons looked like plastic action figures try the SOGA models.

I have thought about this. I played eq2 when it came out (went with it instead of wow because of the gfx at the time) but I got very angry and left after a month or two. It felt like SOE wanted me to WORK and milk me for cash any way they can.

Now, I'm never going to play wow again so that's no comparison but what I wonder is how does it compare to LotRO in terms of gfx and fun play? Rings has a big pile of good will built up based on the beloved IP and the enjoyable content and polished early levels. It's a little old looking now (but still gorgeous on a good rig) and I have tried most of the classes so the content is not a surprise anymore.

I guess I should just pony the 5$ and give it a try. Or stick with STO.

There is a lot of mis-information in some of these comments, coming from players who could not have played the game in 5 years, if at all, and are going on pure Internet hearsay. It's really disheartening.

First of all. The XP debt incurred when you die is absolutely minimal. As in: one kill and you're back in the black.

Second. There are no corpse runs. You revive at a set point in each area (larger zones have several re-spawn locations).

Third. Any computer bought or built in the past year with midlevel components and a $150 graphics card can play this game absolutely fine.

It seems some people have unfortunate perceptions about this game because they haven't played it since November 2004. What a shame.

This isn't even the same game that launched, in terms of the gameplay systems and improvements that have been made. The team at SOE working on EQ2 has consistently put out huge content updates, made tons and tons of changes to every system in the game, and really made it into something very close to one of the best and most solid games on the current market. And I've subscribed and beta-tested just about all of them, yes, including Warcraft, which I do in fact enjoy quite a bit. But it isn't the "only" thing worth playing out there, today!

It's just a pity so many people still can't get over the problems it had 5 years ago.

It's nothing like what it was. If you're an MMO fan you owe it to yourself to at least give it a shot!

Got it up and running, The Shadow Odyssey does give you 30 days if your on a new account.
I'm really enjoying it, been messing around with different classes and whatnot, got several level 10s form trying different classes to see what I like most.
Worth every penny for 30 days of time.
Btw that 5 dolla foot-long won't last you all month, you know you wanna buy this.
Thanks again Massively
