*sigh*

This game can't come out soon enough.

Still haven't gotten anything in my inbox with new info for the beta either :(

Wow, +1 for being able to create humans of widely varying ethnicities! Good job, Square Enix, bravo.

Can I just have the women and not the game? :D

Why can't rl start with character creators???

If this is another Eastern point and click F2P style game then I'll pass.

"Why can't rl start with character creators???"

Cause you wouldn't know what to choose since you would't know what life is about, you wouldn't have the same parameters for beauty etc etc etc... =)

"but it didn't exactly pierce the fog surrounding the game"

This is Square Enix. Get used to it.

Fog surrounding the game will still be there years after launch.

As long as its alot better than FFXI's character creator I will be happy. I like that there are multiple races of human's, and hopefully it effects more than just skin color.

Why do I friggin feel like i'm crazy or something, but swapping tones and colours is NOT customization!!!!!! This is how all asian style games do it.

Zoolander comes to mind here people, its the same stare!!

FFXIV's character creator doesn't change facial expressions.

What I also like about the image in the article is that the female avatar looks believable. I am sure there will be the completely non-realistic breasts running around, but the image above I would totally buy if you told me they were modeled from a real person as a source capture. Sure, maybe a 17 year old and possible dancer, but a real person.

@Wjowski
Doesn't change facial expressions? Maybe that's because the expression changes according to the emotes used??? O.o

@Kalex, this is just a sample of what you can do here are the things you can POSSIBLY adjust:

Height, bust size, waist size, hairstyle, eye color, hair color, age, facial scars for some races and males. This may change but that's what we get so far. :D

@Zan don't be insulting the Square Enix with your click to move!! *gasp* FF11 was and is a progressive game in terms of how you play. FF14 will be the same but up to date with today's standards. ;)

@breezer lol! So true, but they can afford to be tight lipped as they usually deliver top products, which is why people like me are completely nuts about them.

I'm nuts about their products for the most part.

Absolutely despise how they treat the FFXI community, and their consumers in general.

They refuse to answer almost ALL questions about FFXI to this day, refuse to have community sites, refuse to reveal basic game mechanic information.
And they aren't even nice about it sometimes. They laugh in the faces of interviewers who ask questions about unbeatable bosses or jobs that have been obviously underpowered and minimally adjusted since launch.

I'm not optimistic that it will get better with FF14. The general sentiment (from both JP and EU/NA players) is that they don't care. They are the jesus of JRPGs and see no need to lower themselves to making themselves available to their customers.

I just started playing The Last Remnant. What a half-assed exercise in mediocrity/milking your loyal fans (still fun/addictive though xD)... Anyway, something that struck me about the combat is the lack of ANY explanation of the vast majority of how the combat works. You can't even find it on the internet. Nobody knows exactly how the combat works. Their tight-lipped, "we don't care, we don't have to tell you jack" attitude has transferred to other games and that does not bode well.

It would have been better if they showed off some actual variation, not the exact same woman after a number of runs through a tanning bed and some hair dye.

This picture is supposed to only show the various colors on a body, if you go to the official site: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/ under races and character creation they show what you can put on the face too.

From the site:

...detailed adjustments can be made to hair, skin, eye color, mouth, nose and eye shape. You can also add scars and tattoos, the possibilities are almost endless.

Well I'll believe how endless it is until I see a video but it sure sounds promising so far. :)

I'm hoping the game play will differ from Final Fantasy XI especially in the leveling system... I might play it (Final Fantasy XI) next month to further level my Beastmaster while I hope to get an invite to Final Fantasy XIV beta. *crosses fingers for a Beastmaster like job in the game*

their character customisation seems pretty simple, which is good. I have no problem with all female humans having the same model. After playing Aion, I'd rather have a professional give me a perfect toon then try and make more.

That said, Aion didn't even have really dark skin colour like that picture shows, lack of African options FTL.
