Latest Aion news offers contests and free game time

The latest news from the Aion team offers up lots of good things for people who love freebies. (You know, everyone.) To begin with, Aion is introducing a "Refer a Friend" program for veteran players. If you've had an account for 90 days, you should find a little "refer a friend' button on the Aion page of your NCsoft master account, which means you're eligible for the program. For every referred friend that subscribes to Aion, you'll receive a free month of game time.

The latest Eye on the Community had news on a few contests and giveaways as well. Zam.com is doing the Unidentified Flying Daevas Sweepstakes, and the big prize is an Alienware gaming rig. Quite a few copies of Aion are up for grabs as well, so be sure to check it out. Aion Source is also giving away copies of Aion -- Steelbook editions at that -- in a contest that will put your creative skills to the test, so be sure to check it out.

What a total load of sh1t. You have to refer a friend who BUYS the retail game AND has to subscribe. No free trial (even for 7 days).

You send a friend a trial code, they download the client (for free), and play 7 days for free.

Q: Are there any limitations on the Aion demo serial codes?

A: Yes, Aion demo accounts are good for three days, five hours, or level 7, whichever is reached first

There's never a free trial for a new big budget MMO until the first year or first six months is gone. That's standard. :)

And this is necessary why? Not every game is made for everyone, don't like it fine, spewing this line for every single new mmo that launches just because it's not tailor made for you and your 5 friends is not.

Again, as with AoC as with LotrO, and as with TOR and Star Trek and Champions and you name it, those games ARE NOT made for everyone but to offer a variety, thinking otherwise is a waste of time the future isn't WoW where one game fits all, it's a buffet of smaller populated games. :D

Not to mention, I believe this game is still highly successful in Asia. But I guess our English speaking ethnocentrism only extends between the space of Glenn Beck's left and right brain hemispheres. /sigh

Though I agree with you CindyL, I don't think Aion is for me in its current form.

I'm all for variety, and I'm all for niche games( I am loving FE), but this is not one of them. No game is made for everyone, that's quite obvious. You mentioned WoW, and it's funny because this is just Korean WoW, and the market is saturated with this crap.

Why would anyone want to inflict a friend with the boring grind that is this game.

I think the real problem with 3 days, 5 hours and level 7 is that is not long enough to get an idea of the game before they have to buy retail AND contunie to sub.

It's a wank offer - simply.

It's a Demo, it's not claiming to be a free trial like we've been used to seeing out of MMOs- that doesn't usually happen for months. How many demos let you play unrestricted? FPS demos give you one level which equals about 10-15 minutes of content to get a feel for the style of the game.

My mmo is awesome and your mmo sucks because I'm awesome and you suck.

The 5 hours limit is a bit odd. I've never understood time limited trials (Guild Wars does that too). I think level limits are by far the best way.

Since Aion is still very new, they're limiting the time allowed on trial accounts to prevent bots and gold spammers from having a free ticket to invade.

They just got done cleaning up thousands and thousands of bot/RMT accounts and only allowing a certain level (and play time) doesn't let farmers be efficient with the few accounts they'll be able to get (there are restrictions on who can invite a friend as well to prevent this.)

So like NCsoft or not, they're taking steps to keep RMT out of the game and at the same time offering players a chance to let their friends give the game a quick trial.

I just recently started playing, so im no diehard fan but so far im enjoying it enough to keep at it and the server i play on "caster" EU is pretty packed out no matter what time i log on.

I have been dying to try Aion, too bad I don't know anyone that plays...
