Late last week we gave you a heads-up that Cryptic was going to begin answering your questions about all things Klingon in Star Trek Online, and the first round of answers is up.
This installment of Ask Cryptic focused heavily on customization, with questions answered about how far characters can go when customizing and creating ships and characters. The Cryptic development team reiterated a theme that we've heard before: they'll start with a solid foundation and plenty of room to grow, and add things in the future according to what the player base responds to. It's a process that could serve them very well if done right.
The final question went in a slightly different direction and holds the potential for a lot of fun and debate in the Star Trek Online community. One fan asked if there were plans for Klingon language content. The answer? "We've been looking all over for someone to help us out with Klingon Localization. However, at this time there seems to be a shortage of Klingon linguists. We're hoping that as the Klingon language becomes more prominent we'll be able to find someone to help us out with this. We're also looking into ways we can farm this out to the community. Any volunteers?"
Those of you that speak KIingon, hop to it, and for the rest of you the full Ask Cryptic entry can be read here.

After they revealed the Klingons, I kind of wish they just abandoned them all together. It seems like they threw them in as an afterthought, just so they can say their game has PvP.
Far too often their answers to question are "Not at launch, but perhaps down the road".
It seems like their whole mentality is to get this out the door and get people paying for it, then add features later.

I agree and disagree - Klingons and other races were planned from early on, but the timelines made it impossible (I guess).
Don't forget, that which is not in at launch, won't pull in more people later (at least big features, such as different factions/races). So yes, most likely Klingons were thrown in so that PvP could be implemented.
I don't think that they want it out the door, at least not the devs. But the money-givers most likely. Sigh. It is not the first and not the last MMO suffering this fate.

This is what happens when you think you can create an MMO in under 18 months time. They just create a bare bones game and expect everyone to purchase and subscribe to it so they can then start developing it over the next 2 years on your dime.
Sadly we know how the outcome will turn out, like CO, WAR, AoC, Vanguard, and many other failures. This game will sell a bunch of boxes in February, then by the summer lose more than half of those customers, then by the end of the summer they'll lose another large chunk of those remaining. Sometime a year or two later we'll finally hear from a handful of players how fun the game has finally become, but by that time it will be far to late and nobody will care since a dozen other MMO's who actually took their time in development launched in that time.

C'mon Cryptic... make Klingons their own full-fledged faction. I still really like LotRO; but I miss having an opposing faction running around the world like on WoW's PvP servers (man I hate using WoW as an example). I know it's not for everyone though.

Fluff questions that didn't address a single major concern from the community. Language? Come on, really?

Frankly I'm surprised that they DON'T have the Klingon language implemented at least to some degree.
Again. Art controlled by money instead of quality. Never a good thing. Not even always financially a good thing, which is funny.
Frankly though, as long as it keeps enough to make it profitable, I'm happy having a smaller community. *shrug* but I'm a pretty die-hard trek fan.
