I love Tatooine :)

Does anyone know if this planet is significant this far back in time, compared to when Luke lived here with his family?

Is Bioware creating it's own lore for the planet, or were there settlers here/was it discovered way back then?

No, that's the whole problem with them even having Tattooine in the game.. it is completely abandoned during this time, and isn't rediscovered by the Republic for about 2000 more years.

So much for canon.

Actually according to Wookipedia, it is not completely abandoned. In fact there is mention of a Sith outpost. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tatooine

The only thing known about Tat is that SOME time after Revan visited it was abandoned. They don't say when, it could have been 500 years after. The Canon that states the abandonment doesn't even cover the abandonment, it is all speculation.

For all we know after Czerka left it was "re-discovered" many times and lost over the course of 2000 years until the republic did it again.

As for it's worth, there was ore/minerals that Czerka were mining but the ore had strange magnetic properties and corroded quickly. Whether the weapons facility ties into this we will find out. The fact that the planet was so hard to colonize does lend itself to building secret test facilities since less people means the secret won't get out.

So to sum it all up. There is no HARD canon that states Tatooine had nothing going on from the last time Revan was there until 1,100 BBY. That time period is not bound by lore except that sometime prior to 1,100 BBY it has to be abandoned. That could be 100 years or 1000 years.

5000 BBY Tatooine discovered by the Republic (or rediscovered)
3653 BBY Star Wars: The old Republic

BBY stands for Before the Battle of Yavin, and ABY stands for After the Battle of Yavin.

So no problem with the timeline afaik.

Aw c'mon folks it wouldn't be a star wars game without Tatooine. I am just pleased to see yet another planet added to the game. Truly, the more planets available the better, it is a galactic game after all.

Wonder if they will throw in that iconic moon of Yavin or other infamous locations, like Kashyyk, Sullust or Mon Calamari... i hope so.

There are so... many other planets they could have used. So many other planets that we are familiar with, in name only, need to be fleshed out. I've never been a fan of Tatooine. I was so happy with Alderaan. I wish they had made more choices like that

Is obvious SW:TOR is about all Star Wars lore, this will be the real Star Wars MMO after the SWG failure. In example classes are based in iconic characters from both trilogies filmed.

But if they want a classic Star Wars planet in their game they could selected instead Hoth, Bespin or Dagobah, planets infrautiliced and much more interesting to see.

Very excited, I wanted this planet because it just feels like the heart of Star Wars to me and I love exploring it to see places in the movies. Be great to see it in another timeline and will give the developers the opportunity to come up with something new for the planet. There must be Krayts on the Planet right? So they'll be exciting to fight.

It's silly to worry about canon being violated. We're talking about an MMO here. We're talking about a very mainstream MMO. Half the player population are going to be running around with characters named "Darth Dingleberry" and "Captain Kirk" for Pete's sake! I'd say that's breaking canon, wouldn't you? And I doubt Bioware is going to make them change the character's name. Sure, you can hope for an RP-only server (yeah, right!) but even that's going to be loaded with cheezy gothy kids named "Dark Raven Night Flower." Oy!

Tatooine was in KoToR so why are people acting shocked about it being in?

It's not a problem at all people just love complaining. :)

It would not be a Star Wars game without Tatooine that's what it amounts to, and BioWare is pretty anal about keep to story lines and time frames so I'd think twice before accusing them of not sticking to canon, let's not forget they are working alongside Lucas Arts.

Heh? The only crap I can think is their over commercialization going on because it's obvious they want to milk their IP as much as freaking possible (Disney envy?), however it is their IP they can do whatever they want with it. Depending on your perspective that's good or bad, can't say I mind in this case as long as BioWare writes everything. :D

The crap is because pre-existing lore said Tatooine was abandoned shortly after KotOR and wasn't resettled until 1100 BBY. Being inhabited and a warzone between Republic and Empire isn't exactly abandoned. Fans hate canon being overwritten.
