In case you haven't heard, Best Buy is offering the Guild Wars Trilogy at a serious discount this week. $14.99 for Guild Wars: Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. Since the game is free-to-play, a one-time price of $15 for all three games is a powerful incentive to check out the game as a new player. But what if you're a longtime player who loves a bargain? Are you staring at the offer, thinking "Oh man, $14.99. I really don't NEED another account, but..." Never fear, for we are here to help justify your purchase with our "ten things to do with an extra Guild Wars account."
1. PvP against yourself.
2. Hide all your stuff until the hacking issue is sorted out.
3. Pick up more presents from Nicholas the Traveler.
4. More Xunlai tournament points...wait, never mind.
5. Lots of extra storage at a fraction of the price.
6. Got friends in two different guilds and torn on which one to stick with? Put an account in both!
7. Lend yourself three more heroes if you're feeling particularly antisocial.
8. Run your alts places.
9. Use up all of those great character names that you thought up but didn't have the character slots for.
10. Do Tihark Orchard and Chahbek Village on even MORE characters.
We're sure you can think up even more reasons to make the purchase -- if it helps, they even offer a "Great Financing Offer" if you need to spread your payments over 18 months. So pick up a little Christmas gift for yourself. Enjoy!

I lost interest in Guild Wars the day I read the article about Guild Wars 2. I just didn't want to spend time developing characters that are going to be obsolete when the new game hits.
Too bad I paid full price for all of those. :(

Did they ever change it so people can't unlock regions just by getting higher level players to run them through while they go AFK?
That really bothered me about GW.. and I bought Prophecies on the day of release.

monkeystick you can still run places, but for the most part it's a heck of a lot more difficult since prophecies.

How is the game engine? Painfully old?

If by "engine" you mean graphics, Guildwar's graphics are still surprisingly good.
However, if by "engine" you mean mean mechanics, they are painfully several generations old. There is no z-axis to the game (eg; no jumping, and things like being 5 miles above an object is the same as standing 5 miles under it). If you lag in the game, it is HORRIBLE. You'll be doing something, find numbers popping up with crap hitting you, then find yourself "rubber-banded" back to some previous position where you got mysteriously body-blocked.
Even with all that said, $15 is a freakin' steal.

The graphics look nice except for the characters, which animate like Lego people.

#2 is no joke, I just got my account back after a week of no access after my password was stolen. Just to make matters worse they got into my NC Master account too so my Aion account was also hacked. So it'll be a very poor Xmas for all my characters, at least they aren't all nude!
Be extra careful with your passwords people! Beware of scam websites, don't share your account with anyone and try to have unique passwords for all your games and forum accounts.

Also had my master account hacked recently and that's after not playing either GW or Aion for a solid month. No keylogger, no fan sites, and not gold buying. Seems someone just up and cracked my account.
Be wary of NCSoft when thinking of this game. Should your account get hacked you will have to provide full contact info, purchasing/subscription payment method info, serial or keys for all games attached to the account (both past and present) before they will take any action. They can only be contacted via e-mail and only during the hours of 12p-5p CT.
Literally took a week of back-and-forth e-mails and digging through old e-mails to find keys they'd requested. The upside is that GW is free-to-play so no worries about CCard info getting out. Just be careful about your account info should you stop playing for a while as it seems NCSoft has some security flaws.

awesome price.. I finished all 4 GuildWars story lines ages ago. Title grinding was fun for a while though. Good stuff for those who haven't experienced it.

I just bought GW trilogy from Steam for $25 over Thanksgiving weekend, and one thing that struck me as annoying was as soon as I got in-game, there were adds for the GuildWars web-store pointing out that if you buy the trilogy from them, you got Eye of the North free.
Of course, I think EotN is $30 normally, and the trilogy is $50 from the web-store, so you might still come out ahead unless I'm getting those numbers wrong.
