Can we get some clarification of what "The first part of the game is"? Are we talking unlimited play of Tortage?

That's exactly what it means. You can play for as long as you like with multiple characters (8 per account I believe) but none of them can leave Tortage until you become a subscriber.

And it's definitely not a FilePlanet only offer.

I really wish they could change trial chat restrictions. Having no access to general / zone chat narrows the mmo feel pretty much :(

It's to stop gold sellers, the limited trial is the same. Well if it brings in new players it's good as far as I am concerned!!!

AoC is still shaping up!!!! :)

slightly off topic:
i tried age of conan before, it was on sale at D2D for ony £5 so i played it til the free month was up, but decided it was a bit crap, and unsubscribed. But all i hear about this game is how good it is. am i missing something? can someone point me to a site/video/something to inspire me to give this game another go. i am not trolling. i was wondering if maybe i didnt play for long enough to 'get' the game?

For me it got lots of stuff missing I did not really care for the story and the over use of blood make it all kinda toony for me. And the open PVP part make me uninstall the game. Maybe its the best of the junk releases of the last years but its far from the account of content I like to see in a mmo. I am sure it may get better later after you get out of the noob zone like WoW and other mmo's but I do not think its a game for me. Maybe all the graphic guys out there like it...?!

It is to existing FilePlanet subscribers, and a subscription there hardly costs an arm and a leg. Access to trials such as this is one of the benefits of belonging to FilePlanet.

Played the trail recently, and it is a good game. Don't know why it got such bad publicity. They might have fixed the issues they had during release, but I really liked the game.

Great.

I don't really see why one should subscribe to Fileplanet to get access to things that should be free... I don't expect Funcom or anyone to give me free game time, but if they decide to do so, they should at least do it properly by giving everyone a chance, which Funcom in the end did. Kudos to them and of course Mythic that started this great trend.

Levels up to around 20(i.e. the Tortage tutorial) are great and the story that goes along with them is fun and compelling. Once you leave that area though, they just kind of throw you out into the world and you don't really get that driving story & quest anymore. Had a blast going through Tortage but after that it just seemed like a huge wold with not a lot of people or direction in it. I played up to a level 32 & a level 29.

I bought it when it first came up, played for a month, went on vacation, realized I didn't care to go back, unsubscribed. Tried it again recently. The first 20 levels are still fun, but after that it's kind of boring. Combat, supposedly the biggest innovation in the game, is somehow more stale than WoW and LOTRO. You use the same 2-3 combos over and over, then whack on the weakest shield when they're on CD. The lower levels are devoid of players, and the story slacks off.

It's a shame because the graphics are to die for, the characters (even the random quest NPCs), are well written, and the world is interesting. But the game is just boring.

AoC is a great game. You guys are just part of the inital players that got burnt and can never get over it. Or play games and are just trash talking.

Give it go guys. Can't hurt. AoC is a great game with lots of upcoming patches and a fantastic xpac too.

AoC is on the rise.

I have to agree with others on here. There is no reason that AoC gets the hate and slating that it does.

I love it and think it's great. It has improved more and more since launch so just don't believe all that you hear and now you don't have to because you can play the free trial.

AoC's biggest issue is it's former player's who just rant and talk trash about it. Since the new director has started the game has really turned around.

In the next patch there is:

PVP Arenas!!!
Guild Renown with 20 levels allowing item and services for your Guild City. (Mounts, statues, pets etc)
PVP Towers (in part 2) to revamp the border Zones

Rise of The Godslayer Expansion with 5 new playfields, two mounts, factions, easter eggs in the wilds (digging spots and shrines)

LOADS OF STUFF! :)

I still think people should wait to try it out until 1.6 is finally out (the next patch).

"There is no reason that AoC gets the hate and slating that it does."

It really really does... maybe not anymore, but that's what you get when you promise people stars from the sky and deliver crap.. and that's how the AoC on launch was.

It took like 3 months for the 90% of population to leave and that's saying something.

well, I can see why it has such a bad reputation. I tried loading the trial - it stopped dead half way through, tried to cancel and load again, it said to uninstall, I did, and now it won't load without error messages.

There is no tech help on the subscription/download page so...that's it for me!

I've said this before too - AoC really message up by being another WoW clone, even with the good graphics. They should of incorporated player housing and towns. You would have a thriving Gor community paying subscription fees at the very least.

Oh well, on to Fallen Earth.
