Quite possibly one of the stranger screenshots we've gotten from Star Wars Galaxies is today's image sent in to us by Obraik. While at first glance you may think "oh, a lovely town image" it occurs to you, something isn't quite right -- you just can't help but notice the enormous mechanical monstrosity stomping its way across the scene. We'll turn it over to Obraik to explain: [This] screenshot is of a recent event that was held over a weekend or two in Star Wars Galaxies. The story was that a rogue AT-AT were attempting an escape and they'd show up in random locations around the Galaxy. The screenshot shows one making an appearance outside the Theed palace on Naboo on the Chilastra galaxy. We wonder -- did the AT-AT manage to escape for good?
If you've found something strange in your favorite land, we'd love to see screenshots of it. Just email those in to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the game it's from, and a quick note about what we're seeing! We'll post it here and give you the credit for sending it in.

Random world events like this is something that is sorely needed in most MMo's these days.

In before 50 comments trashing SWG even though this is not the time or place to complain about SWG, plus the hate's getting old now, with the NGE being 4 years old. Wait, Venekor's already started trashing it before I could make this post.

The only thing worse than extended SWG-bitterness being 'in before' posts from some self-proclaimed spokesman for everyone's opinion, speaking of things 'getting old' and all.

How does a rogue AT-AT (singluar) randomly appear all over the Galaxy? Who is the rogue transport carting it all over?

There are a lot of people who "still" play SWG on and off. My guild has been around for 5 years and we have a ton of us "old vets". Only these guys are the "real vets". They have been around since before the CU. Most people, like any other MMO, don't play straight through for years. Most come and go for a few months at a time here and there.
Anytime I reactivate and log on it's guaranteed I will be able to talk to a lot of the "old crew" I usually stick around for a month or two and have some fun.
The forums are full of all the weird ones who can't get over the NGE. It's just a game not a way of life. All MMO's change and that's a fact.

Those player made events were awesome. On Eclipse, two players who had a pissing contest against each other for years on the forums, eventually had enough and decided to duel. The person who lost had to delete his character.
A time and place was set up. Needless to say, the attendance almost crashed the server. The two fought, words were exchanged and one almost killed the other...then Darth Vadar and a platoon of storm troopers showed up. Darth Vadar intervened, took the body of the one player into his ship, and flew off.
Many were pissed that they had just been suckered into an event. I will just remember the one guy running after Vader's shuttle yelling "Wait! Wait, take me with you!"
Rogue AT-ATs seem like an idiotic idea. When is the last time an M1A1 Abhrams tank went rogue (without a rogue driver)?

I played SWG since open beta until Dec of 2008. I am not into SWG these days but it is a better game since the NGE was released. The payer house system is still the bets of any MMORPG- thank you Mr. Koster and OG team. And the crafting is still great.Last month I started up SWG for the heck of it to log into Star Sider and see some old guild mates. I found a fantastic mod that upgrades all the textures to DX 10 on the SWG MODS site. It looks nice. The silver UI still looks terrible though- lol. I have to say that SOE has ignored the complaints on that subject. The rest of the UI looks good. I also liked the card game. The community is still alive on star sider. Sadly it is no where near the early days but people are playing.
I have to hand it to Obriak for sticking to this game through the thick and thin. I would want him as a loyal customer if I worked on an MMORPG. He is a nice chap despite disagreements I have seen on the MMORPG.com boards. He has always been mature about his stance on SWG. But for me "time passes on".
Cheers Obriak! I can't wait to duel you in TOR! I am so going to kick your booty!!!
