sort of makes sense females would put more hours into an mmo, since there is a strong social aspect to it.

..I'm not even going to dignify that statement with a direct response cos I know it ain't feminine to fight.

Besides, I need to go put another log on the fire, then cook up some bacon and some beans. Oh and then I need to go out to the car and change the tyre, plus wash some socks and sew those old blue jeans.
Shoot, I nearly forgot to fill the pipe, and then go fetch the slippers.

After all that I should be able to boil up another pot of tea.

And there's that stereotype..

The social aspect of an mmo is what I thought was unique and cool about them, yes, however as a female I don't play 'to be social' per say I play because I just like MMOs; I like goals, I like crafting, I like building a virtual space, I like leveling and getting armors to an extent.

If anything girls like achieving as much as anyone else and MMOs let us do that in a number of ways. :)

There's a comment on the site linked which I thought was great: "I think it’s proving that girls make up a significant portion of the gaming market, something I did not know before coming to this site."

Little by little, we're not just that minority group that if could be catered to could rein in a lot of profit, we're just gamers.

@amana Could you make me a sammich too? And you don't have to worry about the fire, that would give you too much time out of the kitchen.

No attractive woman I've met likes games :\ All my ex's hated them and some even dumped me cause I spend too much time playing games. I like that because if I was with a woman that liked games then I'd never get any time to myself, they'd always want to join in or some shit. Girls can't play games well and even the ones who play pro always get owned by guys cause they don't have the creative mind that men have.

When you give like an FPS or RTS to a woman they can't cope with the fast paced action and can't come up with a strategy to win, probably why they suck at War. However give them an MMO and it requires no skill, just a big time investment and most women sit at home all day cleaning and looking after the kids. So because an MMO isn't all fast paced action, they can do two things at once and still progress in the game.

I just see a lot of women in MMOs who are AFK or love crafting because they just have to hit a button and wait. They love customizing their characters and decorating their homes. They ain't into the PVP side of things but they don't mind raiding because the A.I sucks and it doesn't require much effort to take down a boss... just time.

It may sound sexist but it's how every woman I've met in a game is and how every woman in real life is. Give my G/F The Sims and she loves spending time developing her character but give her Counter Strike and she can't move the mouse and keyboard at the same time lol.

It doesn't just sound sexist, it IS sexist.

well. Flolah, to be fair to Venekor, he does have a point. It's the same as men acting aggressive in romantic relationships - they feel they're supposed to.

I'm not denying that women are just as capable, and I have in fact met many that are in direct opposition to Venekor's statement. But most of them HAVE been bad players, and most of the HAVE hated PvP, etc.

For the former, I've realized that a lot of groups of men make it so that they don't HAVE to be good. They carry them along and never tell them that they're bad players, or where they need to improve. It's as if they're just happy to have them along because they're women. This is a sexist thing in my opinion. Everyone should be treated like equals.

For the later, I think they're just falling into a stereotype themselves of the dainty girl, that still lingers in our culture. The same as the aggressive 'tough guy' that men so often adopt.

You have just made yourself look bad, called women useless and then tried to justify it all by saying that every woman that you have met is like that.
Did you ever think the problem was you?

Not only that but you just showed a stereotype of Men.

We gave him enough rope and he hung all of us with it.

No offense Venekor, but maybe the reason your ex's left you wasn't just your gaming. ;)

hah. yea. like what's her fact in The Guild.

She ignores her husband and her kids while her husband works.

All women gamers are obviously like that!
Glad we've solved this problem.

The female gaming colleagues I know also seem to spend that amount of time with their RL aspects as well, whether be with education, careers and whatnot in addition to 56 hrs of gaming. Some even have dependents. So I suspect the only physical "unattractivenes" they may have in regards to those less then enlightened males, is the bags under their eyes - which are quite likely dragging on the ground when they stand up due to the lack of sleep. :)

All I'm saying is Stereotypes are there for a reason..

Lots of Americans are fat, more so than most countries
Lots of us Brits do have bad teeth and drink tea
Lots of Russians do drink Vodka
Lots of Japanese people will only hire other Japanese people
Lots of Latin countries are obsessed with Love
Lots of Chinese people do like grind like robots.

Same with Men and Women Stereotypes.

Most people I know the Woman stays at home and the man goes out to Work. Women do cry after and argument and go out to get drunk and end up sleeping with the first guy who gives her attention. Women do love shopping where men hate it. Most women hate football where mots men love sport.

People want to deny it but it's nature, men and women like different things.

You forget to take into account culture and environment, people aren't the way they are because they are born that way, they are mostly because that's what we tell to be like.

However I'd ask to expand your horizons because the truth is a lot more gray then this. Asian people do not like grind, they take pride in cooperation and achievement, give them another system to do that and they'll be all over instead of grind. The difference is they have more tolerance or have less access to our types of games. About the Brits, bad teeth really? Since when the 70's? Tea part is totally true and part of their culture, like beer is to Canada :D ect...

I've seen boys and girls love PvP, but I think it's more prevalent in the younger generation then in people over 30 because gaming is more and more acceptable for everyone. I've met plenty of guys who love housing and freak over pets and hate or not really care for PvP or Counter Strike. It's not a gender thing, it's a learned behavior thing and personal preference.

Also, about your anecdote about the woman who cries, gets drunk and sleeps with whomever; dated 2 guys like that, it's not a gender thing it's a serious lack of self worth and confidence. *thumbs up*
