So does that mean the characters might look a little better? I love the game, but the toons look horrible. Especially the human beards....

Character models are client-side, not server-side.

This hardware upgrade will allow the game to perform better; especially in high traffic places like Bree and the 21st Hall. The servers will be able to track more data and process requests more quickly. In other words, the upgrade will reduce server lag (which is different from internet lag).

It will have nothing to do with how anything looks.

What it means is that they care about the lag issues and are upgrading servers due to the community growing. And LOTRO is going to get a DX 11 update down the road.

It is also a sign that the game is growing. After these years, with so many choices, it's so nice to see Lotro do well. Glad I got a lifetime subscription to this game.

"everyone who plays on the Bullroarer server for at least an hour between now and Friday"

"Everyone" in this case means only Americans.

It's not Turbine's fault your country has retarded contest laws.

The artists are obviously brilliant. I never would have thought that the nazgul needed white, pumpkin smiley faces to fill in what was before an empty black hood. Also the change to their mounts looking more like tyrannosaurs instead of the evil dragons from the movie, yet another brilliant move. Kudos to whomever's decision it was to make changes to the coolest looking characters from the movie, you get a gold star.

Since the game isn't based off the movies, the fact that they don't look like them is irrelevant.

They don't have the license for the LOTRO movies so they can't look exactly like the Nazgul from the movies. They have to license for the LOTR books so they are going off of Tolkien's description and not Peter Jackson's.
