Did Roper write these questions for himself? They seem to go along perfectly with his "nothing wrong here, our server has not turned into a ghost town, our gamers are having fun we swear" answers.

Nothing out of the ordinary, or unknown so far.

Not much info here, but talk of multiple updates coming next year makes me happy. Still really enjoying the game. 5-manning and daily questing my way to the best gear in the game suits me a lot more than I expected. (Sorry raiders, you're not extra-special in this game.)

For every person who says "this game sucks!" online, there's about 5 others too busy playing the game to write their comments.

I'm enjoying the game, I find no shortage of people to team with, and made some new friends and reconnected with a few from COH.

I'm glad at the improvements made. Less glitching, no more crashes, more content (what are DEMON doing in the desert, anyway?), and a system not bent on loot.

For a casual/regular gamer who likes superheroes, the game is great.

And 10 who stopped playing but don't care enough to whine about it

The problem here is reality. In reality most people moved on from CO silently. Many were vocal in there departure but the vocal ones are in the minority. CO has one of the worste retention rates of any MMO launched that I can remember. I would not put current active subs above 20-30k and thats being generous.

Key sign there doing fairly bad.... 2 free trial events 3 months after launch. The number just aren't there. 2nd sign, empty servers and extremely long Que times for PvP matches. 3rd sign look how slow the forums are now days.

This is 3 months after launch and the game and forums and players are like that of a 3 year old game niche MMO that hasn't had an update or expansion or word from the devs in at least 2 years.

Simply put, while I am glad people enjoy CO it simply isn't doing well. It would have made a much better single player console game, it has about the same playability as one as most people are done with CO in there first month. The game is a great deal of fun, for a very short time. One play through is about all most people will get out of it.

This game is alot of fun. It reminds me alot of the x-men game that came out 5 or so years a go. Good solid fun without all the drama and epeening of other mmo's.

@ Fisty: For every person who says "this game sucks!" online, there's about 5 others who quietly cancel their monthly subscription.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or rude, but just take a second and consider that some of the people who have complained about CO just might have some valid points to their negative perception of the game.

It's not personal. It's nothing against people who find things they do enjoy about CO. It is just feedback from people who did shell out money for a game that was, honestly, incredibly sparse and buggy at launch. It might be better now, but constant server outages and lack of content cost CO big time.

This is absolutely true. However, there are also a bunch of folks that just love to kick the crap out of something in comment posts.

Note - I'm *not* saying your post is an example of this type of behavior. It's just something I've observed in other CO-related discussions online. See the comments on yesterday's champions-related post for an example.

For those of us that like the game, shortcomings and all, it just gets really tiresome. I'm willing to bet that's the motivation behind electrobix's post.

@HooliganBFLO:

I absolutely agree with you. My point is aimed at all the neep-noppers whining about issues in the game that have been dealt with. To those I say:"let it go!"

Yes, there was a launch nerf. It happened...deal!

I haven't experienced any servers going down in quite a while, and I play almost daily.

Although the channels have been quiet in the past, I'm starting to see more LFG requests and casual banter, which makes me believe a community is building.

I don't mind people bringing up valid pertinent issues, like more activities for supergroups, but most of the points that are brought up every time a CO article comes out sound like dead-horse beating.

Another reason this game and anything Cryptic catches a lot of flack is because this site tends to play favorites with all things Crytpic in their opinion pieces. I'd bet if they cut back and only wrote one or two pieces a week on a Cryptic game or even wrote something focusing on the games issues that needs to be worked out, I would bet the "mud slinging" would be much less worse. But when all you read is 2-3 articles every single day telling you this game is great and ignore the many many issues, that will get many subscribers or former subscribers who have been burned feeling they need to respond to give their view of their own experiences that are far from blissful.

I have not noticed any down tome my end.

It is fine for people to have opinions about games but when it is just mud slinging becase people like to feel better for buying a game they did not like then it is stupid.

If everyone liked the same games then we would all play the same game and would only need 1 to be created.

I'm seeing some comments here about "grouping" and "5-manning" and that has me pleasantly surprised. I gathered from reviews and impressions that CO wasn't a very group-oriented game, and for me, that defeats the purpose of playing an MMO. Am I wrong? For a group of 4-5 friends that gets together to play regularly, is there a lot to do?

On a related note, what's the role situation for that group content? Is there aggro? Are tanks/healers needed or at least helpful, or is it more like everyone hitting and shooting each enemy until there are none left?

There are 8 instances, and they're actually pretty great - the final fight in Dr. Destroyer's robot factory was as fun as some raid bosses I've fought in other games.

Strangely, though, the instances are all between levels 28 and 40 - there are open missions in the earlier levels, but they take about 5 minutes to complete, tops. So, for the first two thirds of the game, you're pretty much doing soloable quests.

It's a fairly puzzling decision on Cryptic's part. There have been hints at a content expansion coming down the pipe. I'm hoping they address this issue, and add more low-level quests so alts can level with less repeated content.

Whoops, forgot to answer the second question. Everyone has access to self-healing powers by the time they're fully leveled, so healers aren't required, but are a strong nice-to-have when you end up with one in a group.

Tanks? Still not required, but a lot closer. That boss is going to be paying attention to *someone* at any given point. If you're at the top of the aggro list and don't have strong defenses (or if you hit that block button a half-second too late) he's going to pretty much one-shot you.

The only real penalty is that you respawn and run back to the fight, but it's frustrating nonetheless.

I think the design goal is that neither tanks nor healers are *required*, but both are possible to build and desirable to have in a group. The boss still goes down if you just spawn-zerg him with 5 dpser's, but it's less fun.

@ dv0rak

Wow, thanks for the in-depth answers. You even answered follow up questions I would have had. The group stuff sounds pretty good, but the content holes are definitely a bummer.

Is that nemesis battle out yet? Has anyone done it and can describe it or forward me to a description? The concept of a group of friends and I battling our own individually designed nemeses is ridiculously cool.

Nemisis Confrontation is out, and it's a lot of fun. The fights aren't very hard, but it's worth running repeatedly just because you get to see what three other folks came up with for bad guys.

Final boss is somewhat harder, and one of those places where you really wish you had a tank if you're in an all-dps group. :-)

Thing to know about the lairs is that the loot isn't great - because the main reward is the tokens you get by running them. In this game, the best tier of gear is token loot. You could solo your way to the best gear in the game, if that's what you want to do.

Same for me, I really enjoy this game, and maybe there is a lot of massively coverage on this game, but I don't care I like this game :) but I understand your point of view.

I'm playing this game, and I think they have a lot of thing that need improvement, ( like the PvP 5vs5 after lvl 30 is bad... really bad... lava suck. they need to fix it in some way...)

But honestly, I will recomand this game.

I hear so many ppl complain about that launch day patch. Drop it already! The game was far too easy before the patch and it was just wonderful afterwards. Ppl complain about content gaps and yet I got a character all the way to 34 and never once ran out of missions. I actually spent all day playing it today. My brother just picked it up and we have a great time together. Made a new friend today and we had a blast. At some point these two guys go into an in depth discussion about how to make their toons better.

People. If you have dreams of making a superhero and playing on line with othrer like minded ppl. Try it out. I would bet there will be another free weekend coming up at Christmas. If you only play for the free month you get for buying the game, you're still no worse off than you would be from buying any other game on the market.

Speaking of free weekends, Seems like all these freebies they've been giving out wind up being around some holiday. What a horrible idea getting ppl to try out their game. As I have not seen any official numbers that tell me what the total number of subscribers is, I'm not going to speculate. But I certainly don't see anything wrong with them trying to win back a few ppl after the rocky start full of bad press.

A rocky start I don't reallly understand, since I had a blast.then and now.
