Cryptic is working toward a February 2010 release of Star Trek Online to much fan anticipation, and associate producer Andy Velasquez recently found some time to talk with Gamereactor for a look at the game.
The discussion gave an interesting look at where Cryptic is hoping to go with Star Trek Online. Velasquez talked about the familiar "to boldly go where no man has gone before" Star Trek theme, expressing a desire for a true sense of new exploration in STO. The setup of the Genesis system, as well as the choice of a time frame in which you won't be left playing second fiddle to Picard or Kirk, serves to encourage that feeling.
Valesquez also addressed the choice to start the Star Trek Online from scratch after taking over the project from Perpetual, fan feedback, and his thoughts on where STO fits into the MMO world. The full interview can be seen at Gamereactor.

Dollars to donuts the ST store will be up before any endgame content.

That's a logical assumption to make. What, are you planning to hit end-game as soon as the servers go live? :/

Well, what I meant was that the ST store will be packed with crap while people are looking for endgame content.
