You sure the Devs aren't loading this down? lol.

Honestly, I'd like to see the Wow fanbois come in here and blow everything out in the last week or so and show them what REAL sub Numbers do.

Don't get me wrong, Not a fan of WoW, not by a long shot, but just think, if Blizz turned on the promotion engine like RoM apparently has lol.

Wow could give you a free in game pet, it would just check for that "i voted" cookie, and they'd put 5 million votes in each category.

Best graphics of 2009? Runes of magic? Serz? The game is fun, don't get me wrong, I have it installed and still occasionally play but..Come ON...

RunesofMagic is rigging this contest somehow
Leading in Best Crafting, Best PvP, Best Capacity for Roleplay, Best MMO Studio, Best Free-to-Play MMO and almost in Best Graphics....
Who are they trying to fool? Let me break it down your anyone who doesnt play this game, cause all who do would never vote favorable for it

- Crafting there is nothing useful in crafting other than some food buffs from Cooking and Potions from Alchemy which can be easily bought from the Auction House. There is barely in money making prospects from crafting and also any gear created from crafting is useless at medium and higher levels

- Capacity for Roleplaying_-_-_-_ Really >< ? their idea of an ingame event was spawning alot of mobs in the most laggiest zone in the game (case in pin the Zurhidion attack crap in Harf Outpost) The quests in the game rarely have any RP value, and shows little or no attention given to the storyline aspect of the game. There isnt even a Roleplaying server, so few guilds have residing themselves to their castles making up some silly stories to keep themselves occupied.

-PvP - Considering that the population left on the current PvP servers is less than the population of some guilds on the PvE servers should be enough said. Current system allows for only 2 classes to reign supreme and the ridiculous reputation rules on the PvP servers, it is safe to say that PvP in this game is a FAIL. One last point on this the company also promised Castle Raids (Sieges) over a year ago, even if they remained true to thier promises given the huge performance issuses of the game, players (such as myself) with even I7 processors can be expecting to achieve a FPS of no more than 2-3

-Best MMO Studio: this is the biggest laugh of all. Considering the recent banning sprees and massive cases of "Disappearing Equipment" with little or no real proof or help to the matter, this company has just tried to sweep everything under the table. Their Costumer support is a JOKE! whilst ignoring the pleas of honest players they occasionally help "when they feel like it" But the best case was when they gave a player something that is worth over 10000Euros if it was made via the proper cash shop routines. The amazing thing behind this is that usually their respond to people who get screwed over is "there are no logs of such an event" But you'd think when there was a public outcry about this matter it took the Community Manager 3 weeks to respond
The Company is split more or less into two companies one for the US servers and the other for the EU side. On the US side anyone speaks out of turn usually ends up with a perma-ban usually, but atleast they keep their community informed. On the EU side, there basically are 3 English servers, 1 Spanish 1 Dutch 1 French, and about 7 or 8 German servers. These German servers are extremely well taken care of whilst the other servers are ignored, and on the game forums left in the hands of Children (Moderator under the age of 18) The Community Manager only shows up to give information on Cash Shop sales and Events and if 50-100 people threaten to quit the game

- Best F2P: if it is one thing however, this game had such potiential. IT could have crushed any opposing MMO if it wasn't for the greed and unprofessionalism of Frogster. I would not advise anyone to spend any money on this game let alone start playing the game, unless you're like me just riding it out till Star Trek Online Launches

I Seriously Hope something is done to the rectify these Polls, cause clearly if has been rigged or the Frogster company has used Bots to vote

stop QQing. it's so easy to cry that the votes are rigged because players like you are unhappy arent satisfied about the results.

you do realize that runes of magic is published internationally, which makes sense why they have so many votes. moreover, this shows how much their community cares about the game regardless of what you think or may have heard of the game.

yeah, i agree it's a little silly that runes of magic is in the top for best graphics, but whatever everyone has different opinions. fanboys will be fanboys--let them root for their game. and to say frogster is cheating? that's totally disrespectful.

mmorpg players have got to be one of the biggest QQers next to counter-strike players. think about how maplestory would do these polls--people would go nuts!

btw, yeah i play runes of magic (i actually prefer guild wars and waiting for guild wars 2). i think it's great compared to whats out there.

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem if the reason ROM was winning was simply a huge number of fans coming to vote for it. Reader's Choice awards are, more than anything, a popularity contest... and that is expected.

But what you see on this page is not a measure of popularity. The data from this poll is simply bad.

Because this poll is so easy to spoof (by something as simple as deleting a cookie), I am highly suspect of any game that would receive so many votes in so short a time. I believe the ROM forums may have even discussed this fact, though for some reason I can't find the particular thread any more. Heck, it's quite conceivable that other games have done the same thing, but it's hard for readers like us to see to what degree it has occurred.

The problem is that this isn't the "Readers' Choice" awards any more. The fact that this poll is so easy to fool means that it really should be invalidated entirely and no awards given out until Massively can figure out a more secure way to do the voting. Right now, it's simply bad data, regardless of whether it's your own favorite game on top.

Don't be foolish. QQ has nothing to do with this. I believe you're missing the point. I haven't played either ROM or Aion or Champions Online, or a number of the MMO's on that list. I have no idea if they're wonderful or terrible. It may even be the case that ROM is the best MMO on the market, as you believe.

I don't know that at all.

What I do know, however... and what the patterns of these results coupled with some internet experimenting suggest... is that the poll itself is broken. It is simply far too easy to break, and it seems someone has done just that.

Several people either, by hand, voted 100+ times, deleting the cookie each time... or someone simply wrote a bot to do the same thing 1000+ times.

It could have been the case with any of these games. I'm not trying to single out ROM; I'm saying that the whole poll should be thrown out. It's worthless data at this point. It's more the Hackers' Choice awards than the Readers' Choice awards... and it wasn't even a very difficult "hack" to make it so.

Just so everyone knows, our poll system is not based on cookies alone. You can clear your cookies and re-vote as many times as you'd like, but it will only count once. Runes of Magic is a very popular game, and has a large, dedicated community. Frogster put a shout-out on their front page for fans to vote, as did Aion when everyone was complaining about Aion "cheating". In fact, many of these studios did that same thing, but RoM just has more players.

I think the most interesting thing here is the fact that people are voting straight down the line without reading the categories. Now THAT'S funny.

When these final results are posted, will we see the Massively bloggers give their own awards as well? Have both the Readers' Choice awards and the Bloggers' Choice awards... something to that extent?

It might be nice to see some perspective from people who have played several of these games and spend so much time writing about them.

That's not funny, it completely ruins the whole thing.

Instead of having an idea of what avid followers of the MMO world think of the games of 2009, we just get "ROM RULZ!!"

Yay.

I cleared my history and cookies and voted for Neo Steam a few times in every category to test this. I was able to vote several times for Neo Steam and yes it did count each vote. I did this all while refreshing the page on my wifes comp so that I could see for sure if the votes did increase each time I voted. I picked Neo Steam specifically for it's lack of votes and interest.

The results were yes I was able to vote mutliple times for Neo Steam in every category and yes it did register each and everyone of those votes. I decided to vote for the ones I orginally voted for several times to balance that out.

So ... yes you can vote multiple times for the same thing in the same category. I just did, repeatedly.

just so people to know

the Asian form of Runes of Magic is called Radiant Arcana
its was made first and RoM was to be completely different, and i quote Frogster
"More Western"

so where the votes coming from?
The US players are just as pissed as the EU players
The only content players are the German servers who
GET SPECIAL TREATMENT
and get better service

Runes of Magic, and it's parent company Frogster, are the biggest bunch of Nazis I've ever come across. I've been playing MMO's for a VERY long time, Well over 9 years. And never have I seen anything comparable to the blatant customer abuse that they have portrayed. They silence, any player with a negative comment. They BAN people, for complaining about bugs, and bad customer service. They take peoples money, in the item shop, DON'T give the diamonds, and then BAN the person when they speak out about it. Do NOT support this game. Do NOT be a sheep. Do some research, and find out exactly how ignorant and totalitarian their system is. It is an absolute outrage.

from what i've seen, they aren't banning people for complaining. they are banning people because people are bashing frogster in their frogster's forums. blizzard does that too, it's not uncommon. i can't say much about their support--everytime i reported an issue they have always come back to me even though sometimes it's a bit late. sure beats a lot of other companies who never even bother to solve my problem (ahem... guild wars and ffxi)

I'm surprised by the lack of attention to Wizard 101. It's a great game, and it's the first great MMO that is appropriate for the entire family. Why wasn't this included in any of the lists?

They should just rename this RoM voting 2009!
URL(http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=30951)

Coming from someone who's played this F2P, I would have only voted for half of those awards, iffy on two of em. (not saying 2009 was a great year of course limiting some of my votes to RoM) I mean they have a horrible PR team on important in game issues. Except that they totally made world announcements to vote for them. I mean they are the best F2P and best new MMO hands down, I voted for them. But no way in hell do they have best graphics, best crafting, or RP "outlet". Now even though I have a love hate relationship with them I mainly just hate cash shops. Because I'm frugal and have an aging rig. =)

I think Turbine should get best studio 09: they're still pumping out great content for LotRO, revitalized a dying MMO gem: DDOU(which is more of a F2P hybrid that i hope all failing P2P's adopt), and they still are releasing content for AC!~! 10th anniversary holy cow

lol, what the heck?! When did Runes of Magic suddenly fly by every other game on the list. I remember the beta, it's a bad rip off of WoW lol. Will be sad to see a free to play win out over better games. And no I don't mean better by opinion, I mean actually better. I don't like Fallen Earth but it by far has the best crafting. Aion has the best visuals without a doubt. Best PvP again is Aion. Champions Online deserve's Best Capacity for Roleplay. DnD hands down for best free to play.

Ah well lol, least the Major sites are giving out the awards to those that actually deserve them. Enjoy the vote spam RoM fans.

I blog a lot, constantly keeping tabs on news, and my experience is that RoM didn't come out of the blue. It steadily grew and still is.

Look at what Massively editors/writer's think, as well as many other sites.

Many sites are giving it their own subdomain along a select list of AAA titles. I think they are doing this because they like the game, they see it growing in population and popularity.

I hate the term WoW Clone, it's so contrived based on the players very personal experiences. I've heard people yell that Fiesta was a WoW Clone as much as all the others.

I personally see that Allods has a visual style that reminds me of WoW, but as for how it plays? I don't know if it is similar to WoW.

Runes of Magic is not similar to WoW. I just don't see it. TP and EXP debt and many other features both easy to see and so subtle you almost don't know they are there, operate different than any other MMO on the market.

Just because you use a hotbar, mana bar, and use the same keys to move and jump does not make it a clone of something else, and if you don't want people drawing a conclusion that you base you clone opinion on only those things, then you need to elaborate and explain you argument that it reminds you of WoW or any other game.

About RoM. I Think it deserves all the credit it has had so far. The game itself is great, it has so much to do imo. About Frogster. NO Frogster doesn't deserve the award for best mmo studio. They or their PR team sure ain't the reason why RoM is doing so good. They have done almost everything to ruin the games reputation. Only thing they have done right is that they have picked the right product. New people start this game all the time, they've managed to balance the economy even tho they have item shop. Me myself first played RoM first time almost year ago and i have quit twice and banned once, but i am still playing this game, I just like it even tho I hate Frogster. Sad is that from now on RoM's success depends about Frogster and it doesn't look so good with worst coding and CS i have ever seen
