As a fan of Impulse, I'm glad to see this arrive! There's no real reason why a MMO can't be available on all the digital distribution services. Heck, there's no reason why I can't digitally download it from Amazon for that matter (what's up with that, Amazon?).

I finally got to try Fallen Earth today thanks to The Escapist and some helpful Massively community members. It was great, I'm thinking of subscribing and this may be the place I buy it from.

primary, secondary, tertiary armor? does everyone wear 3 layers and walk around like the michelin man? sounds like a silly stat system for armor.

Fallen Earth has a LOT of different defenses.

The Primary is physical defenses (Slashing, piercing, crushing, ballistic)
Secondary is Fire/Cold defenses
Tertiary is The more minor resists (Acid, radiation, disease, etc)

Primary, Secondary and Tertiary are just a way of keeping it simple, believe it or not lol.

But I got in yesterday from Escapist Beta keys that I got turned on to by the lovely posters here at Massively, and I'm loving it. I wish my system ran it a bit better, but its pretty rad to be honest.

there we go again... and next week there's a special offer on pink nail polish that gives you +10 to "who-gives-a-rats-ass?". seriously, are you even reading, what you are writing? white dance shoes? feather hat? i'm just about sure, that all fanboys will get each of those items, by purchasing yet another copy of the game. that's 9/10th of the server population... just check the forums, if you don't believe me.

Funny, when I look at the FE forums I see a bunch of people who are (generally) intelligent, polite, and happy with the game. Sure, there's the odd cretin, but that's par for the course (eh, nt?)

What's your problem with FE exactly?

it's not the game itself, it's the fanboys and their unraveled wishful thinking, that tries to make the game so much more and better than it really is, in the eyes of the public.

i've played a (melee) crafter through s1. i made about all quests i could find (to get all ap ofc) and found myself in the self quest-grind wow offers. i started about the same time, the game was released. as expected there were a huge amount of bugs left in the game, that just shouldn't have been there after a hole year of beta. still the fanboys said, they would be fixed and many were. but those weren't the real issues of the game, mind you.

basically fe was somehow broken from the start. it claims to be an fps, but if you have ever really played a REAL fps - let's say, like quake, ut, cs, or whatever - you can and HAVE TO admit, that this game sucks as an fps. it's just not good at it. the movement is awkward (ever tried to jump?), the enemies are stupid, rubberbanding and lag issues all over the place. as an fps, it clearly wasn't good enough. not after a year of beta-tests and it probably won't ever be any good at it. it can be done, just play neocron, which itself is a bugfest, but at least, it feels more like the game it claims to be.

then there's crafting... first i was confused... then i was awestruck and then i came to realize, that it's just another grind: collect items a-z, choose recipe xyz, press start, wait... rince and repeat. it has no depth, no skill, no nothing and after a year of beta testing, you can't even tell how long it will take to craft something. or pause a certain piece and work on another one. NO, you will have to abort and lose everything! after a FRIGGIN YEAR OF BETA! not that it is all that bad... it just has NOT the depth the fanboys claim and it's clearly poorly executed.

market... lol they compared it to eve. i say it's a mess. they clearly never traded in eve. that system has depth... fe doesn't even scratch that surface.

the interface. well it is buggy and awkward, can be modified, if you got a doctor's degree in computer science.

then there's the "famed graphics". well i give you that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder... but well... there are standards and the game performs well below of todays standards. water is boring, stars look like christmas balls, resource nods look like heaps of condor-shit, the world is as static as it gets (in s1). everything is brown-greenish and the animations are short from bad, with the exception of the horse animations, which are pretty damn good actually.
speaking of horses, in s1 you will think this is a game made in the spirit of "westworld" (google it, if you don't know it).

there's never any sense of danger or resource-shortness in this post-apocalyptic world. you can't even go into water... you'll just be blocked by an invisible wall. at the end of s1 everyone will look about the same, because there's only a few items, that are worth getting. the rest of the 1000 recipes are worthless, or help you level. you'll travel a lot... and certain forum post will tell you that this will get a lot worse in s2 and s3 and there's only info, that there will _probably_ be some sort of limited fast travel. people will lost tons of faction standing they'd have to grind back, because of bugs. there's quite a share of exploits that are actively been abused. they say it's hardcore, because you cant (yet) respec and are totally foobared if you don't get certain skills in the right factions, because you won't be able to unlock your cookie cutter build. this info is of course limited to the beta-pros. there's no mention anywhere but the, forums. you'll just be screwed if you don't read up a lot of posts, before you start playing... and so on and so on and so on.

still this doesn't make fe a BAD game, it's just not as great as the raging fanboy-crowed will make you think it is, just to buy into something you will probably not like, because of reasons they are NOT telling you!

Honestly nt, whats up with the FE trolling and playing the hypocrisy role.

Your sounding like 'Yeah is a good game, but it sucks'..

You played the game for only 1 month. Apparently you liked it enough to play for an entire month and don't give this statement stating 'I played it anyways to get my moneys worth'.

Move on already, we get it, you don't like FE as much as a dedicated fan.

Did you ever here of the expression:

Another persons garbage is another persons treasure.

You are entitled to your opinion about FE, but that all it is, a ex player that played it for only a month.

And as a fan of the game, haters are far worse than any fans of any game. They just bitch and whine to much.

while I can't support your arguments against the game since i've never played nor the overuse of commas in your typing, I do support your right to give feedback. As you say, asked and answered.

The button at the bottom and the heading at the top of this window doesn't say "add comment, but only if you like the game or have something positive." It's the fucking internet, man. lighten up.

That said, Sakura Park.

Thanks for the detailed response, nt, it's appreciated.

I've been playing for a couple of months, and I don't see the rabid fanboyism that you describe. I do see an enthusiastic, forgiving player base, but I don't think they're too forgiving, and I don't see any conspiracies.

I think overall the FE community is fairly mature, based on the number of well-reasoned arguments in the forums for changes and against them. I don't really see people trying to hide the game's failings. Of course there's always a percentage that buck the trend, but all in all I find it an OK place to hang out.

I see a lot of people accepting that it's a new game, that it's being developed by an independent company, knowing things aren't going to be perfect from day 1, and giving the development team the support they need to turn a good game with some rough edges, into a great game. In turn the development team are turning around some good patches, and adding new content at a steady pace.

In the past I've ranted about how we should be expecting more from our games, and that it's not good enough for games companies to just charge for access - they also have a moral obligation to make the game better. I believe that based on the way Icarus are interacting with the player community, that they will live up to that expectation. Seeing is believing, of course, and the mid-December patch will provide some goodies which will extend the game significantly. In the meantime, I have high hopes.

So you can add me to the rabid fanboy list if you must, but I'll keep supporting FE until they mess up too many times, or the community starts channeling Aion ;)
