NCsoft has been working on Blade and Soul, an upcoming title directed at their extensive Korean player base, for a while now. The game has been mostly under the radar until recently. NCsoft released a teaser trailer, and our own Seraphina Brennan took a closer look at it as well.
The newest Blade and Soul news to come out is an eleven minute movie that combines some pretty stunning game footage with a first look at some new information. The movie reveals four classes -- BladeMaster, Kung-Fu Master, Force Master, and Destroyer -- and provides a dynamic, exciting look at how they fight, interact, and move, as well as giving a strong feel for how the class works. The rest of the video follows suit, showing off four races as well as the world that the game is set in.
Follow along after the jump to see for yourself.

After watching this clip i have a couple of statements to do:
1 - This clip REALLY gave me the desire to play a big breasted oversexualized female avatar so that i have the chance of grabbing an opponent by his face and throw him of a cliff.
2 - This game looks mind blowingly gorgeous! It also showed an enormous variety of mobs, all incredibly beautiful.
I wanna play this.

They seriously have a 'race' of Tall Men, another of Tall Women and one of Tiny Infant Girls?
That is outright disturbing.
Graphics impress as ever though, and enough unanswered questions to remain intriguing.
In particular...
Is there a playable gun-slinger class?
Can I play without pummelin little girls or beating them with riding crops? (seriously: WTH?!)

Each race has a male and female counterpart... I've seen the female counterparts to the "tall man", and if you looked you'd see the Kun (small rodent-esque race) has men and women. One of them even had a tiny little beard to show his age!
I don't think I could PvP a Kun. I'd be hugging it too much.

You just watched the video with the idea of bashing it's Asian characteristics haven't you??
It has different races, each with different physiques but all races (the Jin, the Gon and the Kun) let you choose between genders. The differences are physionomical and not entirely different species (dunno about the Lyn though).
The classes seem really cool as well. I loved the Destroyer. But when they preseented it i was actually more interested in the opponent because that gun wielding character seem so cool handling the guns.

The women in this game are so oversexualized it's grotesque. Some of the tall ones don't even have human-shaped bodies. Completely disgusting.
Otherwise the game looks promising. This could be the first MMO to match up with single-player games in terms of graphics and gameplay. The combat actually looks dynamic and interactive, as opposed to most MMOs, which have barely evolved since EQ.
And the graphics...my god. I don't know if my computer could handle it...let alone any type of raid or PvP scenario. It's still a year or three away, so I have to upgrade.
I would like to know how group combat works. It seems like things would get way too chaotic.

I'm the same way...and I've stated my distaste for the unnecessary fan service of this game before. However, there is a couple of caveats I have noted that maybe away to work around this game's overly sexualized imagery...
1) Roll a Lyn. It appears they have chibi race in this game that is completely non-sexualized. And as an avid player of Gnomes in WoW (I have a small army of them, that is), I really appreciate all chibi races in any games. :)
2) I suspect from the amount of different costumes and shapes of the toons presented even in their own races, that this game is highly character customizable. Thus, you maybe able choose to put the boob slider at minimun and to wear something more modest. I have to see how the mechanics of that work when more information is made available to really deteremine what we can get away with.
...but I agree, other than that...the game looks great, for that Hal 9000 next generation PC I will purchase in the far future. :)

And your comment isn't sexist in what way, Jared?
...since you brought it up. I've seen no problems how the males are depicted in this game. You can make them as bishounen to testicular as you like...assuming again there's a healthy customized character creator (which I suspect there is). So that's a none issue as far as some of us are concerned and thus, there is no real need to mention the men. /shrug

I see nothing wrong with having good-looking characters...male or female. Obviously it's not going to be realistic, it's a game. Believe it or not, a lot of people like sex and sexualized characters. If you don't, it's your problem.

I am SO not the target market for this one. But even if I were in the market for a generic medieval fantasy MMO (and I'm not), and even if I thought the company that brought us Lineage, Lineage II, and Aion were likely to produce one with fun gameplay (and I'm not), even if? I couldn't get past how completely and utterly ridiculous the female characters look. This is the kind of porn that guys draw ... if they've never actually seen a woman before. Or, at the very least, if every woman they've ever seen was somehow disappointing to them. These "female martial artists" are so far beyond hyper-sexualized as to have blown all the way past sexy without even slowing down, then went all the way through and out the other side of offensive, and embedded themselves somewhere in the realm of unbelievable. And I don't mean "unbelievable characters." I mean "unbelievable that a real gaming studio gave somebody real money to make this."

Its your opinion. I think the game is really beautiful & thank god someone is doing something like this with the Unreal engine. Frankly, western developers arent doing any better. Have you seen the bodies of Dom & Marcus in Gears of War2. Have you seen the bodies of Lara Croft in earlier series. Have you seen the female characteristics in WoW? You could count on your fingers just how many games there are with somewhat realistic human proportions(heck, I could only think of Half Life). Dont kid yourself, what you think as over-sexualized crazy proportions are just racial & cultural differences. Its a freaking game, give your holier than thou attitude some rest. On top of being a game, its a FANTASY MMO. Why should Fantasy worlds and characters look closer to actual humans. I dont want any reality in my games. The more over the top it is, the better. If you had leveled any criticisms towards the gameplay, I would have at least understood that but when you just criticize the boobs & the disproportionate bodies then you are just being silly IMO.

There's a difference between unrealistic breast sizes on skinny women and whatever the women in Blade and Soul are. The females make porn stars look like regular women.

For all of you who can't keep it in their pants: notice that these women:
a) Aren't human, but some other races
b) Are somewhat like the korean players want them to be... therefore they are most likely korean therefore there are even further away from our understanding of what 'human' means ;D
This trailer really spoiled my expectations... B&S will be just like all other mmorpgs but it'll have combos (though the gameplay still won't be skill based, looks like PvP will either be luck/rock-paper-scissors or 'i combo u, u combo me), this running quang gyong stuff mentioned some time ago and a lil bit different graphics. Nothing else that makes it special.
