Since last week was all about space combat, we wanted to round things out nicely for this week's Star Trek Online community Q&A. So, with that in mind, this week we'd like you to give us your best and most burning questions about ground combat and how it fits into the game.
We'll give you until the end of Wednesday, December 2nd to submit your questions in the comments section below. Following that, we'll round up a cross-section of the most popular and most poignant ground combat questions and by next week your answers will be here, straight from the folks at Cryptic. As before, we're open to suggestions on next week's Q&A topic, so feel free to throw your hat into that ring while you're typing up those Q's for Cryptic's A's.

It's been said that you have to do both. You fly to the mission, you do something on the ground, and then go back to your ship. They said something about it being the formula to 90% of Star Trek episodes and they wanted to keep it that way.

1) What do you feel is iconic about Star Trek ground combat, and how has this translated into game mechanics?
2) Can we expect to see 'ground' content that isn't combat? For example, some kind of "puzzle level", which is a common video game convention while also suiting the Star Trek feel well.

1.- What is being done to avoid ground missions to become too repetitive in the long run?
2.- Are there plans to make ground combat bigger and allow more than 5 players? Massive fights are not only done in space after all.

They've said in interviews that there are ground missions that allow you to combine forces with up to 2 other away teams...so 15 allies seems to be the cap.

Are we restricted on where and when we beam down to a planet? For example can we fly to some random far off planet and beam down to the planet for no other reason than curiosity, or are we only able to leave the ship in strict quest lines or episodes.
I really hope the universe feels big (like Eve) and not claustrophobic with barriers about where you can go (unlike the real universe!). Space is big, it should feel that way!

is it all just you an npc's? if you group with friends will you both be controlling your own parties of people? If not, will grouping always be a bunch of captains? Or can the players elect to send just a certain one (or more) of their bridge officers, which they will control during the away mission?
How does that all work.
How does that all work.

can u play with people that have chosen to play as the klingons?.
What i mean is, can u beam to planets and run missions with your mates even if there not playing as the federation?.

When engaged in ground combat, will you have a large selection of weapons?, that at a scroll of your mouse will change to one of many weapons and items you have found?, or indeed selected pre-mission.
Or will it be a case of selecting 1 or 2 guns and a special item per NPC before the mission/battle, of which you will not be able to change throughout the mission/battle?.

Will ground combat be as strategic as space combat or will it be much more like an fps?. If the former, will there be a sub-targetting system where it automatically selects your target or will you have to manually select your target and fire?

i read about flanking and the expose/exploit system and i have a few questions:
1. is there an arc for flanking or do you have to be directly across from each other?
2. will bridge officers have skills that use/require flanking or expose/exploit?
3. can you give bridge officers orders to make use of flanking or expose/exploit? (ie order a bridge officer, with an exploit weapon, to "fire on my target" after you shot it with an expose weapon or visa versa)
