"It is upon this day that we join our brothers in battle."
"Ahem ..."
"Ah yes, Lt. Telford. Thank you for reminding me."
RipperX quitely checks the console for any new communications.
"Word has not come yet, so continue to prepare the men. I will send a communication to the Admiral of the fleet. This party will start soon enough."
As Lt. Telford steps away, RipperX thinks the new sublight communications system was a gift that has improved all of the morale of his men. After their shifts, the communication system allows all of the crew to send and receive messages from home. As it does not interfere with current military communications, it is seen to improve the general well being of the men. All are ready and willing to work and put more effort into keeping the ship running. Maybe some of his crew will reach out and make new friends. This will allow for easier recruiting of those who have not thought of serving on a trading ship. This trading ship is their home. The ship provides most everything its crew will need. Now with a completely interactive communications system, the ship even provides some of the comforts of home. The only thing to ponder now is how soon it will take to get to Jita and sell this shipment of holovids ...

CORP CHAT - EVE 18:00

DaggerX3: x up for Sleeper bashing fleet to destroy for fun and profit!

RockerSock: I'm game!

DaggerX3: Hold up! Fleet just got pwned by a SB wolf pack.

SadistMother: That Loki is gonna be expensive to replace...

DaggerX3: Grab a PVP ship and let's chase those SB off, interceptors priority.

Scouty: NO way! They also brought in a BS fleet. Now at the J652349 WH.

SadistMother: We are too outnumbered and they have ECM support on directional...

DaggerX3: fall back to POS.

RockerSock: They are hitting the POS now! There are at least 10 Battleships, how did they not collapse the WH?

Scouty: Looks like they did collapse their WH... Something is fishy. Did you check out their corp in the New Eden database?

DaggerX3: Yep. Mercs.

DaggerX3: Calling anyone monitoring, we could use help.

Scouty: Looks like they have at least 15 people in here.

DaggerX3: Hold in POS until we can get better numbers.

JunkMonkey: About to leave work, can be on in about an hour.

TotalXstasy: Heading to class here, can be back online in about 80 minutes.

DaggerX3: OK, sending an emergency tweet to the corp. Plan for operation repel the stench in 80 minutes.

The social networking aspect of New Eden will completely transform how I play eve. No more will I wonder if there is a mining operation, a station defense, or a logistical operation needing my support. I will be able to check from anywhere, any computer or web device, at any time to see if I'm needed and then inform corporate or alliance leadership when I can be online to assist. Whether its industrial, logistical, tactical or even strategic level operations, corporations and alliances can find out just how many pilots they have available at anytime and plan accordingly.

By simply setting a profile, I can share information about my character, skills, plans, goals and assets then decide who I want to share it with. Thus I can connect to like minded individuals and either recruit them into my corporation or alliance, or build a larger network of friends within Eve. Social netorking will expand Eve beyond the virtual world, meshing it with the real world. Truly anything is possible in the sandbox.
