I've never played SL (can't seem to register successfully), but there's something I've always wondered about, and that's this "viewer" business.

Do I understand correctly that viewers are basically different GUIs for SL? It's an intriguing bit of nomenclature.

It's a client-server architecture. The 'viewer' is the client-side software (essentially the downloadable part that lives on your PC). Depending on the build and platform, it's generally 30-60 megabytes. The user-interface is, of course, a part of that.

Essentially it's a 'viewer' for SL, the same way that your Web-browser is a viewer for the Web.
