What the hell was the blue dong drama about anyway? My husband and I watched with anticipation at this supposed flagrant blue penis in Watchmen only to find ourselves going: "Wait... what? That was it?"

Grow up society.

THESE are the examples you use of unrealistic women?

3/4 of them have the same boob size as most of my female friends. And I certainly know ones who fit in the soul caliber size. (a few are even natural)

I even thought Tabula Rasa even took a step back looking even more average by not having insane clevage. This is just boobs though, including the rest of the body it skews a bit but overall boob size is on par with what I see everyday.

And these aren't all models or anything, one of my friends who is in the soul caliber catagory is working on her MBA

Um. No you don't. You can't have a 15 inch waist and a 75 inch bust in nature. The only people on earth with that kind of endowment have illegal saline-injection breast implants.

Of course people have giant boobs in the world, but they don't have 1% body on the rest of their body.

Nice strawman. He totally said that, at all. And the pictures are that thin and that busty. Yup. You sure are good at numbers.
Those women don't have 15 inch waists and 75 inch busts. They are not as busty as say, Hitomi Tanaka, who has 38 inch breasts and a 23 inch waist, though she's not quite as thin as the girls here, she's much bustier.

I have always thought that it is women (Obviously there are exceptions) that care more about looks than men.

If a guy isn't that attractive (Unless he has money or fame) He can go years without getting any.

If a woman isn't that attractive, a guy will still be with her. (He may not tell his friends)

So ultimately, for guys, I don't think it is about outward appearance I think it is what is on the inside of a woman that we care about.

Personally as a gay man I am tired of looking at the emphasis on mammaries. Why can't the game makers put in some realy cute twinky pixel men. And my use of the word Twink is it's real long term gay meaning here and not the recently stolen MMO meaning. ;)

Beauty is nice to look at no matter what sex you find attractive.

You want twinks? Damn, come onto my server on WoW, get a character up to lvl 19, then pay 10g to turn off xp. All I ever see is a bunch of Ally twinks running around spanking our arses all about Warsong Gulch!

Wait... you meant that definition of twinks...

I still stand by what I said, and enforce your definition upon them as well... >_>

Objectification does go both ways and men can be just as harmed a women by internalization of gender narratives. Even though often gender roles puts men in a position of power that doesn't mean that it always works to their advantage or has no effect on them. There are many people out there who are harmed by the what is deemed by society as correct behavior for a "MAN," even the men themselves.

Anyway, you should have at least posted up the original picture of the guy!!!

The man in the screenshot from Blade & Soul is the exception, not the norm.

While many men in videogames are unusually muscular, they aren't presented in a sexual/attractive way. The vast majority have their bodies completely covered, and have harsh faces. Most don't even have asses, or even the hint of a bulge between their legs.

Compare that to the vast majority of female characters in videogames, who sport physics defying anatomy, pornstar faces, and an aversion to clothing. In most MMOs, a man can equip a set of armor and be fully covered... But if a woman puts the same suit on, she's in a thong and nipple covers.

I don't know if it's degrading to women, though. It's more insulting to men when you really think about it.

Just because they aren't "pretty" doesn't mean they aren't a sexual object. The rugged, stoic man is probably higher on a general sexual desirability scale than a pretty boy who spends time admiring himself at the gym.

If a man was wearing "revealing" armor it would probably make him the subject of ridicule and not a sexual object. Even the hint of the male anatomy is often considered grotesque.

The whole thing is pretty insulting to men. The reason the screenshot from Blade & Soul is the exception is because men who are overtly sexual are often considered to be gay.

You are dead on with that Toy.

The reason why men aren't sexualized beyond a Conan look is because it's near impossible to make it such without making us ridiculous to both men and women. Even in romance novels you don't see men dressed up with junk shots and speedos because it would destroy the fantasy.

I think it's because, allthough women don't admit it, a lot of their attraction is based on the man's display of strength and power. Anything that diminishes that power also diminishes the attraction. It's really easy to make a sexy guy look totally ridiculous by diminishing his visual power-put bunny ears on Ivy there and nothing happens. Put them on Conan, and watch people roll in the aisles laughing.

FFXI had a good example of this. Guys and girls can both wear the subligar and harness set, which is a bikini bottom and a strapped top. On a female pc it looks like it fits, but on almost every male race in the game it looks ugly, despite being the same exact piece of armor. Even women find it so.

ToyChristopher: "The whole thing is pretty insulting to men. The reason the screenshot from Blade & Soul is the exception is because men who are overtly sexual are often considered to be gay."

Isn't that view that sexually depicted pixel men are gay only in your immature and homophobic eyes? Isn't this really your own personal fear that being a sexually charaged avatar is akin to playing a girl toon... that it shows what you like to look at?

Just because your avatar has a bulge between his legs and a cute well shaped butt doesn't make you any gayer than you are already, your statement though shows it has twanged your conscience, you have looked and thought, "OMG, I hope no-one knows that i think my toon is hot."

Actually, I really go along with Christopher's point of view. If there is too much emphasis on the penis via fashion or whatever other statement, I'm certain people would gravitate towards calling it gay or an example of a homosexual tendency.

And you're going a bit out of line there, Jay. Let's refrain from the personal attacks, as this is a generalized discussion and not an attack fest.

But, you say that like it's a bad thing Sera. :(

Penis = Gay.

So what? Why should that be bad? Why should boobs be bad means at the same time why do we need to have genderless males?

Apart from LoTRO I have seen very little masculine shaping in MMOs, WoW males actually have depressingly bad asses and no package at all.

Yeah sorry, I shouldn't flame people also.

Ah, thanks for the apology Jay. No harm done. :) As long as we keep our heads on our shoulders.

I don't mean it to sound bad at all. Phrasing it, however, is difficult. What I think I mean here is that as much as we may not like it, it can be perceived in that manner when that is not the intent of the designer.

We can't scale up men like we can scale up women. It's the whole apples and oranges topic that was brought up in an earlier comment. The way we perceive the two genders as a society just doesn't support it. If we try to scale up the man and bring attention to the genitalia like we do with women, it either looks silly or it looks... just... off.

We do it to women, it still looks off, but the scaling works differently. If that makes any sense. Not sure if I'm explaining it right.

But this is not about scaling up of male "packages". While we have female toons with huge, ripe, luscious, touchable, desirable breasts we end up with emasculated males with absolutely no butt and nothing between their legs at all, and in WoWs case they make it worse, they make one of the races so cartoonishly camp that a drag queen would blush.

No, In video games all we seem to get is a non-sexual musclebound look that in my opinion only a preteen would find attractive, while we (on the female side get Xena-esque toons with strength, agility and fap value.

While the female toons are made to look attractive and evocative the males are just well... badly enough depicted to turn me straight.

I don't think the issue is really with the unrealistic objectification of Women through unrealistic breasts or armour but more the one side-edness. The straight/biwomen (and gay men) who want to have their own eye candy to perve on are denied it for fear that some people who equate "gay=bad" will be offended.

As far as male avatars are concerned:

LoTRO = Wonderful, delicious, squeezable butts. Butts to dream of.
Second Life = OMG, anything you want to be
MO = Full frontal nudity, it all hangs free and all male toons are very well endowed
WoW = OMG, Nothing between their legs and a flat pane of glass for an ass

But reverse the WoW one and look at the females? Huge Boobs!
